A Spherical Non-LTE Line-Blanketed Stellar Atmosphere Model of the Early B Giant epsilon CMa [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We use a spherical non-LTE fully line blanketed model atmosphere to fit the full multi-wavelength spectrum, including the extreme ultraviolet (EUV) continuum observed by the {\it Extreme Ultraviolet Explorer}, of the B2 II star \epscma. The available spectrophotometry of \epscma\ from 350 \AA\ to 25 \micron\ is best fit with model parameters \Teff ...

A FEROS spectroscopic study of the extreme O supergiant He 3-759

open access: yes, 2009
We present a study of the extreme O-type supergiant He 3-759 using new high-resolution FEROS data, revealing that it is a near spectroscopic twin of HD 151804 (O8 Iaf).

Theoretical Clues to the Ultraviolet Diversity of Type Ia Supernovae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The effect of metallicity on the observed light of Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) could lead to systematic errors as the absolute magnitudes of local and distant SNe Ia are compared to measure luminosity distances and determine cosmological parameters.

Ag‐Cu Nanoarchitecture for Enhanced LSPR Absorption: the Role of Surface Roughness and near‐field Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This study investigates the plasmonic properties and biosensing capabilities of a nanocomposite incorporating Cu and Ag nanoparticles for detecting anti‐DbpA antibodies associated with Lyme disease. The enhanced LSPR response is explained through FDTD simulations of Cu–Ag near‐field interactions and increased surface roughness.

The New Generation Atlas of Quasar Spectral Energy Distributions from Radio to X-rays [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We have produced the next generation of quasar spectral energy distributions (SEDs), essentially updating the work of Elvis et al. (1994) by using high-quality data obtained with several space and ground-based telescopes, including NASA's Great ...

Leveraging Multifaceted Polyphenol Interactions: An Approach for Hair Loss Mitigation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This study presents tannic acid as an effective alternative to traditional hair loss treatments. Acting as an adhesion mediator, tannic acid binds to keratin on the hair surface and sequesters SCANDAL—a blend of salicylic acid, niacinamide, and dexpanthenol—allowing gradual release to hair follicles.

Properties of the ionized gas in HH202. II: Results from echelle spectrophotometry with UVES [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We present results of deep echelle spectrophotometry of the brightest knot of the HH202 in the Orion Nebula --HH202-S-- using the ultraviolet Visual Echelle Spectrograph (UVES). The high spectral resolution has permitted to separate the component associated with the ambient gas from that associated with the gas flow.

Quantitative ultraviolet measurements on wetted thin-layer chromatography plates using a charge-coupled device camera [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper presents the first study of the UV imaging of spots on thin-layer chromatographic plates whilst still wet with solvent. Imaging of spots of benzophenone during and after development was carried out using a charge-coupled device camera.

Ultraviolet spectrophotometry of degenerate stars

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1979
Observations of one helium- and three hydrogen-atmosphere degenerates made with the International Ultraviolet Explorer are discussed. Fluxes in the UV give temperatures in good accordance with those determined from the ground and from the ANS satellite data.
