X-Ray and Radio Polarimetry of the Neutron Star Low-mass X-Ray Binary GX 13+1

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We report the X-ray and radio polarization study of the neutron star low-mass X-ray binary (LMXB) GX 13+1 using the Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) and Very Large Array.

Spectropolarimetry of WR66

open access: yes, 1996
We have carried out spectropolarimetric observations of the Wolf-Rayet star WR66 (WN8) with EFOSC1 mounted on the ESO 3.6m telescope of La Silla. The results indicate a polarization level of about 5 to 6 % in the continuum which is most probably due to interstellar polarization.

The Impact of the Angle-average Approximation in the Partial Frequency Redistribution Modeling of the Mg ii h–k Doublet Stokes Profiles

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
In recent years, the Mg  ii h and k lines have become increasingly important for the diagnostics of magnetic fields in the solar chromosphere, motivated both by the advances in the modeling capabilities of their polarization and by the unprecedented ...

Revisiting the X-Ray Polarization of the Shell of Cassiopeia A Using Spectropolarimetric Analysis

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
X-ray synchrotron radiation is expected to be highly polarized. Thanks to the Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE), it is now possible to evaluate the degree of X-ray polarization in sources such as supernova remnants (SNRs). Jointly using IXPE data

Spectropolarimetry for Discerning Geometry and Structure in Circumstellar Media of Hot Massive Stars

open access: yesGalaxies
Spectropolarimetric techniques are a mainstay of astrophysical inquiry, ranging from Solar System objects to the Cosmic Background Radiation. This review highlights applications of stellar polarimetry for massive hot stars, particularly in the context of

Multiband Spectropolarimetry of Lunar Maria, Pyroclastics, Fresh Craters, and Swirl Materials

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
Imaging polarimetry is a well-known method for examining the small-scale structure of the surface regolith of airless celestial bodies. In this study, we examine (for the first time) the wavelength-dependent polarization behavior of selected lunar areas,

X-Ray Polarimetric Observations of the Western Hotspot of Pictor A

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We present the results of the analysis of a ∼2 Msec spectropolarimetric observation of the western hotspot (WHS) of the radio galaxy Pictor A. This is the brightest extragalactic radio source that allows us to carry out spatially resolved observations ...
