Microstructural Evolution and Mechanical Property Degradation of Sn0.5Ag0.7Cu5Bi Solder Joints with High Indium Alloying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study identifies 12 wt% indium (In) as the optimal composition for Sn0.5Ag0.7Cu5Bi solder joints, achieving 87% ductile fracture and 81% suppression of intermetallic compound (IMC) growth versus 4 wt% In. High‐In alloys (15–17 wt%) show abnormal IMC thickening due to thermal activation.

The role of binarity in Wolf-Rayet central stars of planetary nebulae

open access: yes, 2015
Over a hundred planetary nebulae (PNe) are known to have H-deficient central stars that mimic the spectroscopic appearance of massive Wolf-Rayet stars. The formation of these low-mass Wolf-Rayet stars, denoted [WR] stars, remains poorly understood. While

Toward Maximum Utilization of Heavy Rare Earths in Sintered Nd–Fe–B Magnets by Grain Boundary Diffusion Source and Application Area Optimization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, the grain boundary diffusion process is optimized to maximize heavy rare earth utilization by strategic magnetic hardening of areas in the magnet such as corners or edges that are highly susceptible to demagnetization, as demonstrated by finite element magnetostatics simulation on an internal permanent magnet, synchronous traction motor ...

Old Dogs, New Tricks: Re-examining Photographic Spectra of Plaskett’s Star

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
Photographic spectra of Plaskett’s Star (HR 2420, HD 47129, V640 Monocerotis) that were recorded at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory have been digitized with a flatbed scanner.

Spectroscopic Binaries Among λ Bootis-type Stars [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2011
AbstractThe small group of λ Bootis stars comprises late B to early F-type stars, with moderate to extreme (up to a factor 100) surface under-abundances of most Fe-peak elements and solar abundances of lighter elements (C, N, O, and S). The main mechanisms responsible for this phenomenon are atmospheric diffusion, meridional mixing, and accretion of ...

Improved Strength and Corrosion Resistance of Ti–50Zr Alloy Through Heat Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work systematically analyzes the effects of heat treatment on mechanical properties and corrosion behavior of Ti‐50Zr alloy produced via vacuum arc melting. Microstructure transforms from coarse lamellar α phase in as‐cast condition to fine and uniformly distributes acicular α′ phase in heat‐treatment state.

Orbits of Six Triple Systems

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
Joint analysis of position measurements and radial velocities of six triple stellar systems is conducted to determine their inner and/or outer orbits. Accumulation of such data is needed to study the architecture of stellar hierarchies and its relation ...

Spectroscopic Studies of Binary and Multiple Star Systems [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1992
There can be few subjects that benefit more than binary stars do from complementary approaches. Consider their orbits, for an initial example. By ‘visual’ methods — by which I mean all methods of obtaining angular resolution on the sky, including the modern techniques of optical interferometry — one can determine an orbit, but with the scale known in ...

Removing Homocoupling Defects in Alkoxy/Alkyl‐PBTTT Enhances Polymer:Fullerene Co‐Crystal Formation and Stability

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
PBTTT‐OR‐R, a C14‐alkoxy/alkyl‐PBTTT polymer derivative, is of substantial interest for optoelectronics due to its specific fullerene intercalation behavior and enhanced charge‐transfer absorption. Comparing this polymer with (S) and without (O) homocoupling defects reveals that PBTTT‐OR‐R(O) forms stable co‐crystals with PC61BM, while PBTTT‐OR‐R(S ...
