Detection and Signal Processing for Near-Field Nanoscale Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Researchers from a broad spectrum of scientific and engineering disciplines are increasingly using near-field infrared spectroscopic techniques to characterize materials nondestructively and with nanoscale spatial resolution. However, sub-optimal understanding of a technique's implementation can complicate data interpretation and even act as a barrier ...

Fluorinated Graphene‐Coated N95 Respirators for Enhanced Protection against Viral Accumulation and Transmission

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a one‐step spray coating approach to coat the fluorinated graphene (FG) nanosheet onto the N95 respirators. The spray‐coated superhydrophobic N95 respirators can effectively repel respiratory droplets off instantaneously and prevent SARS‐CoV‐2 virus accumulation on the surface.

Performance Comparison of Surface Sensitizers for Diode Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Polyamide 12

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser‐generated nanoparticles transform standard PA12 powders into high‐performance, dye‐free feedstocks for diode laser 3D printing. Despite identical absorbance at 808 nm, CuS, LaB6, and CB coatings reveal striking differences in fusion and strength—unlocking new design space for recyclable, industrial‐grade polymers.

Terahertz and Infrared Spectroscopy of Gated Large-Area Graphene [PDF]

open access: yesNano Letters 12, 3711 (2012), 2012
We have fabricated a centimeter-size single-layer graphene device, with a gate electrode, which can modulate the transmission of terahertz and infrared waves. Using time-domain terahertz spectroscopy and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy in a wide frequency range (10-10000 cm^{-1}), we measured the dynamic conductivity change induced by ...

Real‐Time Characterization of Polypropylene Jet Dynamics in Melt Electrospinning Using Laser Diffraction and Image Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study uses real‐time laser diffraction image analysis to quantify fiber diameter changes and whipping behavior from the nozzle to the collector under varying electric field conditions. By capturing diffraction (scattering) intensity changes and bending angles, melt jet and whipping behavior are accurately assessed, supporting melt electrospinning ...

Fourier transform spectroscopy around 3 microns with a broad difference frequency comb [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We characterize a new mid-infrared frequency comb generator based on difference frequency generation around 3.2 microns. High power per comb mode (>10-7 W/mode) is obtained over a broad spectral span (>700 nm). The source is used for direct absorption spectroscopy with a Michelson-based Fourier transform interferometer.

Comparative Study of Experimental Methods for Measuring Thermal Properties of 100Cr6 Steel Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the thermal properties of 100Cr6 steel in both bulk and powder forms. Measuring the very low thermal conductivity typically exhibited by powders poses significant challenges. To address this, two novel measurement techniques—temperature gradient and finite laser pulse response—are introduced and evaluated by comparison with the ...

Far infrared spectroscopy on the three-dimensional dilute antiferromagnet Fe(x)Zn(1-x)F2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Fourier-transform Infrared (FT-IR) Spectroscopy measurements have been performed on the three-dimensional dilute antiferromagnet Fe(x)Zn(1-x)F2 with x=0.99 ~ 0.58 in far infrared (FIR) region. The FIR spectra are analyzed taking into account the ligand field and the local exchange interaction probability with J1 ~ J3; |J1|,|J3|<<|J2|, where J1, J2 and ...

Efficient and Scalable Radiative Cooling for Photovoltaics Using Solution‐Processable and Solar‐Transparent Mesoporous Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Graded refractive index (GRI) structures are prepared from the layer‐by‐layer spray coating of the mesoporous SiO2 nanoparticles, showing high solar transparency and thermal emissivity. Under outdoor conditions, after 50 days, the GRI‐coated photovoltaics show on average 6.65 ± 1.48 °C lower than that of the non‐coated references, maintaining 80.9 ± 8 ...
