Deficits in language comprehension and production have been repeatedly observed in Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders (SSD). However, the characterization of the language profile of this population is far from complete, and the relationship between language deficits, impaired thinking and cognitive functions is widely debated. The aims of the present ...

The Mood Spectrum in Unipolar and Bipolar Disorder: Arguments for a Unitary Approach
Focus, 2004This study examined the extent to which individuals with a lifetime diagnosis of recurrent unipolar disorder endorse experiencing manic/hypomanic symptoms over their lifetimes and compared their reports with those of patients with bipolar I disorder. The study group included 117 patients with remitted recurrent unipolar depression and 106 with bipolar I.

The spectrum argument purports to show that the better-than relation is not transitive, and consequently that orthodox value theory is built on dubious foundations. The argument works by constructing a sequence of increasingly less painful but more drawn-out experiences, such that each experience in the spectrum is worse than the previous one, yet the ...

Asymmetry among Hering primaries thwarts the Inverted spectrum argument
Behavioral and Brain Sciences, 1999Purest points of Hering's six primary colors reside at different levels of lightness such that inversion of each hue pair would be detectable in subjects' choice of foci on the Munsell array. An inverted spectrum would not impose the isomorphism constraint on a contrast of red-green or yellow-blue, whatever we conclude about inference in functionalism.

This article builds on the argument of a link between behaviours observed in persons with autism spectrum disorders and persons with anorexia nervosa. In describing these behaviours, a link is made between deficits in social cognition, lack of flexible and creative thinking, theory of mind, and deficits in early pretend play ability. Early pretend play

Medical assistance in dying (MAiD) was legalized by the Supreme Court of Canada in June 2016 and became a legal, viable end of life care (EOLC) option for Canadians with irremediable illness and suffering. Much attention has been paid to the balance between physicians' willingness to provide MAiD and patients' legal right to request medically assisted ...

Spectrum arguments are incredible
The Philosophical QuarterlyAbstract Some philosophers have presented arguments that the all-things-considered-better-than relation admits of cycles. The most prominent arguments for this conclusion are spectrum arguments. Whether or not any spectrum arguments are sound is a topic of debate among value theorists.

The paper deals with the spectrum relation of almost periodic solution to second order neutral delay-differential equations with piecewise constant argument of the form \[ (x(t)+px(t-1))''= qx([t])+f(t), \tag{1} \] where \(f\) is a real valued almost periodic function, \(q\) and \(p\) are nonzero constants with \(| p| \neq 1\).

It is shown that \[ x''(t)+ p(t) x(t)= q x([t])+ f(t)\tag{\(*\)} \] has a unique almost-periodic (ap) solution \(x\) on \(\mathbb{R}\), with Bohr spectrum \(\sigma_B(x)\subset \sigma_B(f)+ 2\pi\mathbb{Z}\), provided \(p:\mathbb{R}\to \mathbb{R}\) is continuous with period \(1\), \(0\neq q\) and real, \(f\) ap, \(q \int^1_0 v(s)\,ds\neq 1\) with \(v ...
