Functional characterization of rare NRXN1 variants identified in autism spectrum disorders and schizophrenia

open access: yesJournal of Neurodevelopmental Disorders, 2020
Rare genetic variants contribute to the etiology of both autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and schizophrenia (SCZ). Most genetic studies limit their focus to likely gene-disrupting mutations because they are relatively easier to interpret their effects on ...

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Variation in plant functional traits explains the substitution distribution and allocation strategy of Stipa species across natural grasslands of Ningxia, Northern China

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Functional traits reflect plants' adaptability to their environment, and environmental gradients influence their distribution. But few studies have investigated the link between these traits and species substitution patterns or the relevant ecological ...

Overlaps in brain dynamic functional connectivity between schizophrenia and autism spectrum disorder

open access: yesScientific African, 2019
Schizophrenia and autism share some genotipic and phenotypic aspects as connectome miswiring and common cognitive deficits. Currently, there are no medical tests available for either disorders, and diagnostics for both of them include direct reports of ...

Voltage induced switching of an antiferromagnetically ordered topological Dirac semimetal

open access: yes, 2018
An antiferromagnetic semimetal has been recently identified as a new member of topological semimetals that may host three-dimensional symmetry-protected Dirac fermions.

Multidimensional OMICs reveal ARID1A orchestrated control of DNA damage, splicing, and cell cycle in normal‐like and malignant urothelial cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the frequently mutated chromatin remodeler ARID1A, a subunit of the SWI/SNF cBAF complex, results in less open chromatin, alternative splicing, and the failure to stop cells from progressing through the cell cycle after DNA damage in bladder (cancer) cells. Created in BioRender. Epigenetic regulators, such as the SWI/SNF complex, with important

A Knowledge-Driven Framework Discovers Brain ACtivation-Transition-Spectrum (ACTS) Features for Parkinson’s Disease

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering
Dopaminergic treatment has proved effective to Parkinson’s disease (PD), but the conventional treatment assessment is human-administered and prone to intra- and inter-assessor variability. In this paper, we propose a knowledge-driven framework and

Sex-related patterns of intrinsic functional connectivity in children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders

open access: yesAutism, 2020
Although a growing literature highlights sex differences in autism spectrum disorder clinical presentation, less is known about female variants at the neural level.

Multi‐omic characterization of consensus molecular subtype 1 (CMS1) colorectal cancer with dampened immune response improves precision medicine

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study highlights the importance of multi‐omic analyses in characterizing colorectal cancers. Indeed, our analysis revealed a rare CMS1 exhibiting dampened immune activation, including reduced PD‐1 expression, moderate CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, and suppressed JAK/STAT pathway.

Aggregated functional data model for Near-Infrared Spectroscopy calibration and prediction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Calibration and prediction for NIR spectroscopy data are performed based on a functional interpretation of the Beer-Lambert formula. Considering that, for each chemical sample, the resulting spectrum is a continuous curve obtained as the summation of ...
