Recent evidence implicates gut microbiota (GM) and immune alterations in autism spectrum disorders (ASD). We assess GM profile and peripheral levels of immunological, neuronal and bacterial molecules in ASD children and controls. Alarmin HMGB1 was explored as a non-invasive biomarker to monitor gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms.Thirty ASD children and 14 ...

Motor Functioning in Autistic Spectrum Disorders: A Preliminary Analysis [PDF]
The study sought to identify differences in motor functioning between autism and Asperger syndrome while also assessing the diagnostic contribution of such assessment. A sample of 16 individuals with autism and 10 with Asperger syndrome completed the Dean-Woodcock Sensory-Motor Battery, and outcomes were compared.

A bibliometric analysis of executive functions in autism spectrum disorder
Current Psychology, 2021Executive Functions (EFs) is one of the pervasive areas of cognitive science that has received much attention in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Given the importance as well as the breadth and complexity of the various disciplines involved, the present study examined EFs literature over a period of thirty years.

Functional brain connectivity as revealed by singular spectrum analysis
2012 Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2012Correlation based measures have widely been used to characterize brain connectivity. In this paper, a new approach based on singular spectrum analysis is proposed to characterize brain connectivity. It is obtained by deriving the common basis vector of two or more trajectory matrices associated with functional brain responses.

Spatial and temporal spectra of periodic functions for spectrum analysis
Applied Optics, 1984Both the spatial and the temporal spectra of reference signals used in interferometric spectrum analyzers affect the system performance. We define a class of bandlimited reference signals that have N discrete frequency components of equal magnitude. We show that the system performance is primarily determined by the aperture weighting function and is ...

Executive Function in High-Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Meta-analysis of fMRI Studies
Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 2020Abnormalities in executive function (EF) are clinical markers for autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, the neural mechanisms underlying abnormal EF in ASD remain unclear. This meta-analysis investigated the construct, abnormalities, and age-related changes of EF in ASD. Thirty-three fMRI studies of inhibition, updating, and switching in individuals

Performance function for equally-spaced digital spectrum analysis
IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2001A different procedure for evaluating the errors introduced by the equally-spaced sampling technique in the asynchronous spectral analysis of a periodic signal was introduced. It is based on the assumption that the initial sampling instant can be randomized so that each estimated spectral component can be considered a random variable characterized by ...

Comparative Analysis of the Effect of Renal Function on the Spectrum of Coronary Artery Disease
The American Journal of Medicine, 2020We aim to assess the differential effect of renal impairment across the spectrum of patients with ischaemic heart disease and to study if any established risk factors may modify this risk.A total of 2013 patients who underwent revascularization for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction or invasive physiology assessment were included.

Autonomic function in narcolepsy: power spectrum analysis of heart rate variability
Journal of Neurology, 1997Ten narcoleptic patients that had never been treated previously and ten healthy volunteers of comparable age underwent 48-h polygraphic recording to assess the effects of wakefulness and sleep on beat-to-beat heart rate variability by means of power spectrum analysis.
