To speculate or not to speculate
Bulletin of Alloy Phase Diagrams, 1981It is suggested that critical assessments of alloy phase diagram data should include speculative interpretation of phase equilibria. Examples of speculative data for the Cr−Ni−W and Al−Fe−Ni systems are given to illustrate this point of view.

In this contribution we propose a strategy which focuses on the game as well as on the opponent. Preference is given to the thoughts of the opponent, so that the strategy might be speculative. We describe a generalization of OM search, called (D, d)-OM search, where D stands for the depth of search by the player and d for the opponent's depth of search.

IN 1925, F. Hrozny discovered the source of the “Cappadocian” tablets near the village of Kultepe (38° 44′ N, 35° 34′ E). These cuneiform tablets provide a foundation for study of the pre-Hittite (circa 1940 BC to 1740 BC) network of Assyrian merchant colonies in Bronze Age Anatolia1. Bilgic2 has published the names of 119 towns active in this exchange,

This biologist finds herself like a ballet dancer imitating a pigeon-toed hunchback: All of the intellectual training to keep my toes turned out emotionally backfires with a request to speculate freely.

There are a few points that need focussing on to solidify their effort and we hope they will meet with their philosophy.

Conventional parallelizations of the alpha-beta (α-β) algorithm have met with limited success. With current algorithms, beyond 10 processors additional ones are of little benefit. This paper introduces speculative computing as a means of extending the effective number of processors that can be used.
