Since its implementation, bitcoin is confronted with the problem of high price volatility. During certain time periods, the exchange rate of the digital currency follows boom and bust patterns which show similarities to speculative bubbles. This thesis aims to empirically investigate whether the bitcoin market experienced such a bubble.
