Speech file compression by eliminating unvoiced/silence components

open access: yesSustainable Engineering and Innovation, 2021
The main objective of this study is to have the noise component of a speech signal eliminated and compressed by storing the locations and durations of silence regions.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

The modulation transfer function for speech intelligibility. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2009
We systematically determined which spectrotemporal modulations in speech are necessary for comprehension by human listeners. Speech comprehension has been shown to be robust to spectral and temporal degradations, but the specific relevance of particular ...

Interplay between circadian and other transcription factors—Implications for cycling transcriptome reprogramming

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...

Codebook Based Digital Speech Compression

open access: yesJISR Management and Social Sciences & Economics, 2007
Speech compression has been an area of interest for many researchers, and their objectives remained to reduce the bit rates, also to maintain the speech quality.

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Adaptive Speech Compression Based on Discrete Wave Atoms Transform

open access: yes, 2016
This paper proposes a new adaptive speech compression system based on discrete wave atoms transform. First, the signal is decomposed on wave atoms, then wave atom coefficients are truncated using a new adaptive thresholding which depends on the SNR ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Application of Wavelet LPC Excitation Model for Speech Compression [PDF]

open access: yesITB Journal of Engineering Science, 2008
This paper presents an application of linear predictive coding (LPC) excitation wavelet models for low bit- rate, high-quality speech compression. The compression scheme exploits the model properties, especially magnitude dependent sensitivity, scale ...

Speech Compression Using Discrete Wavelet Transform [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Speech compression is an area of digital processing that is focusing on reducing bit rate of the speech signal for transmission or storage without significant loss of quality. Wavelet transform has been recently proposed for signal analysis.
