Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Youth with Childhood‐Onset Lupus: A Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective Our objective was to determine the feasibility and acceptability of the Treatment and Education Approach for Childhood‐onset Lupus (TEACH), a six‐session cognitive behavioral intervention addressing depressive, fatigue, and pain symptoms, delivered remotely to individual youth with lupus by a trained interventionist.

Speech Development by Imitation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The Double Cone Model (DCM) is a model of how the brain transforms sensory input to motor commands through successive stages of data compression and expansion. We have tested a subset of the DCM on speech recognition, production and imitation.

Differential Item Functioning on the Patient Health Questionnaire‐8 by Disease Subtype, Language, Sex, and Age among People with Systemic Sclerosis: A Scleroderma Patient‐centered Intervention Network Cohort Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective Somatic items used in depression assessments can potentially overlap with symptoms related to physical illness, including systemic sclerosis (SSc). No studies have looked at whether somatic depression items may be influenced by diffuse versus limited SSc disease subtypes, which are associated with varying degrees of symptom presentation.

A Novel Syllable-Level Signal Encryption for Robust Secure Speech Communication System

open access: yesIEEE Access
Speech communication is vital for conveying information and emotions, yet it faces significant security threats. This research presents a novel signal encryption system that operates at the syllable level, preserving the natural flow of speech while ...

Engineering Deformation and Failure in Diamond Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Lattices via 3D Wall‐Thickness Grading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The work demonstrates that strategic wall‐thickness grading in diamond triply periodic minimal surface lattices enables precise tuning of deformation and failure behavior under compression. Different gradation patterns guide how and where the structure collapses, improving energy absorption or promoting controlled brittle failure.

Auditory perceptual efficacy of nonlinear frequency compression used in hearing aids: A review

open access: yesJournal of Otology, 2017
Many patients with sensorineural hearing loss have a precipitous high-frequency loss with relatively good thresholds in the low frequencies. This present paper briefly introduces and compares the basic principles of four types of frequency lowering ...

Learning to detect dysarthria from raw speech

open access: yes, 2019
Speech classifiers of paralinguistic traits traditionally learn from diverse hand-crafted low-level features, by selecting the relevant information for the task at hand. We explore an alternative to this selection, by learning jointly the classifier, and

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Positive‐Tone Nanolithography of Antimony Trisulfide with Femtosecond Laser Wet‐Etching

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A butyldithiocarbamic acid (BDCA) etchant is used to fabricate various micro‐ and nanoscale structures on amorphous antimony trisulfide (a‐Sb2S3) thin film via femtosecond laser etching. Numerical analysis and experimental results elucidate the patterning mechanism on gold (reflective) and quartz (transmissive) substrates.

A New Unit Selection Optimisation Algorithm for Corpus-Based TTS Systems Using the RBF-Based Data Compression Technique

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
A major drawback of corpus-based speech synthesis systems is the use of large acoustic inventories, and currently one of the main challenges is the optimal representation of concatenation costs associated with units in the acoustic inventory.
