Phase-Aware Speech Enhancement With Complex Wiener Filter

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2023
In speech enhancement, accurate phase reconstruction can significantly improve speech quality. While phase-aware speech enhancement methods using the complex ideal ratio mask (cIRM) have shown promise, the estimation difficulty of the phase is shared ...

Implementing Health‐Related Quality of Life Assessment in Pediatric Oncology: A Feasibility Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background There is growing interest in embedding health‐related quality of life (HRQoL) assessment and patient‐reported outcome measures (PROMs) within clinical cancer care. This study evaluated the feasibility, acceptability, and usability of implementing an electronic PROM (ePROM) platform to measure HRQoL in children with cancer ...

Speech Enhancement with Natural Sounding Residual Noise Based on Connected Time-Frequency Speech Presence Regions

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, 2005
We propose time-frequency domain methods for noise estimation and speech enhancement. A speech presence detection method is used to find connected time-frequency regions of speech presence.

Performance pressure enhances speech learning [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Psycholinguistics, 2015
ABSTRACTReal-world speech learning often occurs in high-pressure situations such as trying to communicate in a foreign country. However, the impact of pressure on speech learning success is largely unexplored. In this study, adult, native speakers of English learned nonnative speech categories under pressure or no-pressure conditions.

Intraoperative Collection of Ascitic Fluid With Intra‐ or Postoperative Reinfusion in Ovarian Cancer: Safety and Feasibility of a Roller Pumping Method

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Patients with ovarian cancer often present with massive ascites, leading to significant protein loss during surgical procedures. Although cell‐free concentrated ascites reinfusion therapy (CART) is used in palliative settings to mitigate protein loss, its application in intraoperative settings remains unexplored.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Next‐generation proteomics improves lung cancer risk prediction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This is one of very few studies that used prediagnostic blood samples from participants of two large population‐based cohorts. We identified, evaluated, and validated an innovative protein marker model that outperformed an established risk prediction model and criteria employed by low‐dose computed tomography in lung cancer screening trials.

On Learning Spectral Masking for Single Channel Speech Enhancement Using Feedforward and Recurrent Neural Networks

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Human speech in real-world environments is typically degraded by the background noise. They have a negative impact on perceptual speech quality and intelligibility which causes performance degradation in various speech-related technological applications,
