The listening talker: A review of human and algorithmic context-induced modifications of speech [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Speech output technology is finding widespread application, including in scenarios where intelligibility might be compromised at least for some listeners by adverse conditions.

From patient advocacy to patient‐driven research: Building active partnerships beginning at the bench to reach the bedside

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Research is strongest when conducted alongside patients, not just about them. Patient research organizations help integrate patient perspectives into research priorities, study design, and scientific meetings, leading to meaningful patient outcomes and development of relevant therapies.

Machine Translation Shifts on The Meaning Equivalence of Culture Sentence and Illocutionary Speech Acts: Back-Translation

open access: yesCaLLs: Journal of Culture, Arts, Literature, and Linguistics
Machine translation, as an important tool in the field of artificial intelligence, has made significant progress in recent years. One of the most difficult aspects of machine translation is capturing the cultural nuances and meanings in illocutionary ...

GelMA‐based 3D spheroids recapitulate transcriptomic and functional hallmarks of myeloid sarcoma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
GelMA 5% hydrogels support the formation of myeloid leukemia spheroids that recapitulate MS‐specific features, including G1 arrest, apoptosis, and ECM‐driven transcriptomic reprogramming. The 3D model mimicked soft‐tissue‐like stiffness and oxygen conditions, and transcriptomic convergence with primary MS samples confirmed its utility as a preclinical ...

High-Quality Time Stretch and Pitch Shift Effects for Speech and Audio Using the Instantaneous Harmonic Analysis

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, 2010
The paper presents methods for instantaneous harmonic analysis with application to high-quality pitch, timbre, and time-scale modifications. The analysis technique is based on narrow-band filtering using special analysis filters with frequency-modulated

The segmentation of spontaneous speech from an interactive-functional prosodic approach

open access: yesRussian Journal of Linguistics
For a long time spoken language has been interpreted through the lens of written norms, often producing analytical models that are partial or distorted. Traditional approaches overlooked how prosody shapes discourse structure and meaning.

Tutorial and Guidelines on Measurement of Sound Pressure Level in Voice and Speech

open access: yes, 2018
Purpose Sound pressure level (SPL) measurement of voice and speech is often considered a trivial matter, but the measured levels are often reported incorrectly or incompletely, making them difficult to compare among various ...

BCG vaccination potentiates oxidative phosphorylation in neonatal myeloid‐derived suppressor cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
BCG vaccination enhances oxidative phosphorylation in neonatal MDSCs, impairing their immunosuppressive function. It upregulates electron transport chain genes and mitochondrial activity, increasing ATP and oxygen consumption. Pharmacological OXPHOS inhibition partially restores suppressive capacity, confirming causality.

The C‐terminal truncated splicing variant of NK1R negatively modulates substance P‐stimulated NK1R signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The neurokinin 1 receptor exists as full‐length (NK1L) and C‐terminally truncated (NK1S) splice variants. We show that NK1S heterodimerizes with NK1L, impairing Gαq coupling and Ca2+ mobilization while enhancing β‐arrestin1 recruitment. NK1S suppresses substance P‐driven gene expression and cell migration, revealing NK1S as an endogenous biased ...
