Disambiguating durational cues for speech segmentation

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2013
Vowels are lengthened in lexically stressed syllables and also in word-final syllables. Both stress and final-syllable lengthening can assist in word segmentation from continuous speech, but in languages like English, with a preponderance of stress-initial words, lengthening cues may conflict for indicating word boundaries.

Speech analysis syllabic segmenter

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1990
A speech pattern is partitioned into its syllabic subunits by generating signals representative of the speech energy and autocorrelation features of the time frames portions thereof. The peak energy time frames are identified from the frame energy signals and the minimum energy time frames between each pair of successive peak energy frames of the ...

Perceptual strategies in prelingual speech segmentation

Journal of Child Language, 1993
ABSTRACTPrevious work has suggested that infants may segment continuous speech by a BRACKETING STRATEGY that segregates portions of the speech stream based on prosodic cues to their endpoints. The two present studies were designed to assess whether infants also can deploy a CLUSTERING STRATEGY that exploits asymmetries in transitional probabilities ...

Automatic segmentation of speech

IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 1991
A method for automatic segmentation of speech into phones is described. The incoming utterance is split up into more or less stationary parts, and these stationary parts are labelled as phones using the phonetic transcription of the utterance. An implicit segmentation algorithm splits up the utterance into segments on the basis of the degree of ...

Segmentation of Speech Sounds

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1966
A program for segmentation of an acoustical continuum of speech sounds into discrete parts suitable for further analyses is described. The speech wave is read into the computer using an A-D converter. Analysis is performed directly on the acoustic waveform, using an IBM-7090. The pattern-recognition techniques used to segment the acoustic waveform into

Text Independent Methods for Speech Segmentation

2005
This paper describes several text independent speech segmentation methods. State-of-the-art applications and the prospected use of automatic speech segmentation techniques are presented, including the direct applicability of automatic segmentation in recognition, coding and speech corpora annotation, which is a central issue in today's speech ...

Moshi: a speech-text foundation model for real-time dialogue

arXiv.org
We introduce Moshi, a speech-text foundation model and full-duplex spoken dialogue framework. Current systems for spoken dialogue rely on pipelines of independent components, namely voice activity detection, speech recognition, textual dialogue and text ...

Synthesis of Greek Speech with Elementary Speech Segments

1980
Computer-synthesis of Greek speech has been performed by combining elementary speech segments, extracted from the utterances of a Greek speaker and stored in a digital computer. A text put into the computer via a teletypewriter is segmented into units according to the stored speech segments.
