Reliability of Adjustable Speed Drives
IEEE Industry Applications Magazine, 2010The reliability of ASDs has improved very much. The resulting MTBF from realistic estimation (which is 44 years) shows an MTBF for standard LV drives that will be acceptable for most applications in the chemical industry where programs such as "Improve Equipment Reliability," "Equipment Justification and Minimization," and "Risk-Based Engineering" are ...

Optimum International Reserves and the Speed of Adjustment
Journal of Political Economy, 1970In the current debate on international monetary reform the protagonists can be grouped into two main camps. On the one hand, the AngloAmericans maintain that what is most urgently needed is a major addition to the stock of international reserves. They fear that without a larger supply of international means of payment countries will be forced to adopt ...

Adjustable‐Speed Pumps for Utilities
Journal AWWA, 1961This article discusses the suitability of adjustable‐speed centrifugal pumps for systems for which pipe friction is a predominant factor to be considered. Fewer adjustable‐speed pumps than constant‐speed pumps are required for a given job. The savings that result from the use of fewer units more than offset the initial higher cost of variable‐speed ...

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1982
Today, high energy costs and the availability of large (Example: 3000A, 4000V) solid- state devices are forcing industry to look at new and different adjustable speed drives. This paper introduces three different types of adjustable able speed drives for use on large fans and mixed flow pumps. The three systems are: (1) the current source inverter; (2)

Debt Covenants and the Speed of Capital Structure Adjustment
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2017Abstract This paper examines the impact of debt covenants on the speed of capital structure adjustment. Overall, we find that covenants lower the speed of adjustment by 10–13%, relative to the speed of adjustment of firms without covenants. The speed of adjustment is significantly lower, by 40–50%, for firms with the most intense covenant provisions.

Self-adjusting scheme for high speed routers
2008 33rd IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN), 2008Many schemes of high-performance IP address lookup have been proposed recently. But most of them do not process dynamically the packets and give no specific interest in the skewness of the traffic. Hence, the lack of dynamic packet routing algorithms has been the motivation for this research.

Industrial Structure, Concentration and the Speed of Price Adjustment
The Journal of Industrial Economics, 1988It is argued that the relationship between market structure and the speed of price adjustment involves two distinct forces with opposing directions: "t he leadership effect" and the "industry profitability effect." The direction of the relationship will depend on the relative importance of these effects.

Automatically Adjusting the Speed of E-Learning Videos
Proceedings of the 33rd Annual ACM Conference Extended Abstracts on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2015Videos are becoming a commonplace way for students to view instructional material. Although current technology allows customization of default playback speeds to cater to individual students' desired pace, we highlight a need for more dynamic or reactive control systems capable of varying playback in response to viewer needs or activities (e.g. slowing
