Dissociable factors affect speed perception and discrimination
Clinical & Experimental Ophthalmology, 2000ABSTRACTFactors affecting our judgement of the speed of visual motion were investigated. Two types of judgement were made: perceived speed relative to a standard comparison stimulus, and discrimination between the speeds of similar stimuli. The factors affecting these two judgements were found to be doubly dissociable, suggesting that they may be ...

Environmental Factors Influencing Pedestrian Walking Speed
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 2013The present study investigated various factors influencing pedestrian speed. Undergraduate students who were registered in psychology courses participated in three studies (Study 1: N = 71, M age = 20.3 yr., 37 women; Study 2: N = 92, M age = 19.6 yr., 48 women; Study 3: N =108, M age = 20.4 yr., 56 women).

Factors Affecting Walking Speed of Elderly People
Age and Ageing, 1989Associations between walking speed and other variables have been investigated in a group of 67 women and 58 men aged between 65 and 90 years and living independently. In men, walking speed was related positively to calf strength, step-score (a measure of customary physical activity), hours spent in active leisure, height and weight, and negatively to ...

Low-Speed Horizontal Curve Friction Factors
Journal of Transportation Engineering, 2005This project was a pilot study to examine side friction values for the geometric design of low-speed urban horizontal curves. The friction factors calculated from measured curve radius, pavement cross slope, and vehicle speed within the curve were compared with those in the 2001 A policy on geometric design of highways and streets.

Speed and power factor controller for AC adjustable speed drives
IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion, 1991The speed and power factor of an adjustable speed slip power recovery drive are controlled in order to optimize the operation. This is accomplished by means of a variable-voltage-variable-frequencies power converter. The function of the digital controller of the power converter is to provide the online speed and power factor regulation.

Planktonic foraminifera: factors controlling sinking speeds
Deep Sea Research Part A. Oceanographic Research Papers, 1984Abstract Sinking speeds of 330 specimens belonging to 10 extant species of planktonic foraminifera were determined in a sinking column device filled with 3°C seawater. The sinking speed is governed primarily by shell weight and presence/absence of spines. For example, preserved planktonic specimens of Orbulina universa, whose shell weight ranged from

The factor of speed in intelligence.
Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1926From results secured from experiments with trained subjects in a psychological laboratory the authors conclude that speed of reaction is probably the most important factor in individual differences which appear in acts which involve "intelligence." There is a high correlation between score in an intelligence test, speed in an intelligence test, and ...

Car speed estimation based on image scale factor
Forensic Science International, 2020Speed estimation by video analysis has been an increasingly common method for obtaining the speed of vehicles involved in traffic accidents. Generally, the estimate is based on reference measurements obtained on site or on measurements calculated by photogrammetric techniques.

Factors affecting speed in human‐powered vehicles
Journal of Sports Sciences, 1994It is shown how to derive the appropriate cubic equation relating power and the effects of friction, gradient and wind resistance on the speed of a human-powered vehicle (HPV). The effects of gradient and wind resistance are explored for parameters representing a typical racing cyclist. The principal conclusion may be summarized as follows: for optimum

Factors Influencing the Speed of Flocculation
The Journal of Immunology, 1935Summary The higher the Lf-units of diphtheria-toxin or anatoxin, the smaller the Kf-value, as has been asserted by many observers. If diphtheria toxin or anatoxin is freed from accompanying substances by dialysis or purification by the calcium-phosphate method, its Kf-value becomes smaller.
