High speed interconnect optimization
2015 Asia-Pacific Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility (APEMC), 2015As the signal speeds begin to increase, small routing imperfections start to dictate the overall channel performance. Commonly found routing imperfections such as trace breakout, via discontinuity and AC coupling capacitor pad capacitance need to be further optimized to meet the desired channel specification based on bit error rate (BER).

Circuit optimization based on speed indicators
2005 12th IEEE International Conference on Electronics, Circuits and Systems, 2005This paper addresses the problem of circuit performance optimization that is a complete task to realize in the last step of the I.C. design flow. The goal of this work is to avoid the use of random mathematical methods (very CPU time expensive), by defining simple, fast and deterministic indicators allowing easy and fast implementation of circuits at ...

The programming community seems to believe that choosing Java as a language inevitably means poor performance. In reality, as you might expect, the speed of a Java application depends very much on the quality of the code. Indeed, improvements in performance from good coding can far outweigh those achieved from using a faster virtual machine.

Synthesizing embedded speed-optimized architectures
IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits, 1992A global optimization approach to high-level synthesis of speed-optimized embedded VLSI architectures is presented. Two mathematical integer programming (IP) models are presented. The first simultaneously selects types of functional units, performs scheduling tasks, and allocates hardware. The second additionally minimizes latency and optimally selects

Speed variance, enforcement, and the optimal speed limit
Economics Letters, 1993A model of the optimal speed limit is developed which explicitly recognizes the roles of average speed, speed variance, and the level of enforcement. An unusual result emerges, namely that a higher speed limit may be optimal when reducing the variance in highway speeds reduces accident externalities.

Optimal Speed Scaling Algorithms under Speed Change Constraints
2011 IEEE International Conference on High Performance Computing and Communications, 2011In this paper, we investigate energy-aware real-time scheduling algorithms with speed change constraints. A processor is equipped with variable \emph{clock frequency} (\emph{speedy}) feature and is used to schedule a set of given jobs with deadlines. Each speed change involves time/energy overhead and recent studies show that it also impacts negatively

Energy-speed relation and optimal speed during level walking
Internationale Zeitschrift für Angewandte Physiologie Einschliesslich Arbeitsphysiologie, 1958Energy expenditures in 12 male and 7 female untrained adult subjects were measured with Max Planck respirometers while walking in the laboratory at speeds of 24.4, 48.8, 73.2 and 97.6 meters/ min. The results were collated with those of other investigators, and the following conclusions were drawn:

THE life cycles of various species of fish include long range migrations for feeding and spawning purposes. Long stretches of these migratory routes are often crossed without food intake so that efficient use of the store of internal energy is essential to survival.

Optimal Speed Limits: Limits of Optimality Models
Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2002Recent estimates of optimal speed limits on public roads in Norway and Sweden are presented. An optimal speed limit is set to minimize the total costs to society of transport. Travel time, vehicle operating costs, road accidents, traffic noise, and air pollution were considered in the determination of optimal speed limits for Norway and Sweden.
