Sports analytics for professional speed skating [PDF]

open access: yesData Mining and Knowledge Discovery, 2017
In elite sports, training schedules are becoming increasingly complex, and a large number of parameters of such schedules need to be tuned to the specific physique of a given athlete. In this paper, we describe how extensive analysis of historical data can help optimise these parameters, and how possible pitfalls of under- and overtraining in the past ...

Age and growth of the endemic groovebelly stingray (Dasyatis hypostigma), a heavily exploited batoid in the Brazilian Meridional Margin (21–34° S)

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Life‐history data are often lacking for exploited elasmobranchs, jeopardizing proper management and conservation measures for this vulnerable group. Herein, we provided age and growth estimates for the groovebelly stingray (Dasyatis hypostigma), a medium‐sized, heavily exploited batoid endemic to the southwestern Atlantic Ocean.

Do skin suits increase average skating speed? [PDF]

open access: yes
We analyze the effectiveness of speedskating suits to increase average skating speed at the 2002 Olympic winter games of Salt Lake City. We model the average skating speed of male and female speed skaters at distances from 500 to 10000 meters.

Molecular insights into electroreceptor ribbon synapses from differential gene expression in sturgeon lateral line organs

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
The expression of various genes involved in synapse development, stability and/or function was studied in developing mechanosensory neuromasts and electrosensory ampullary organs in sterlet sturgeon. Most were shared, including Slc17a8, Slc1a3 and Nrxn3, but Cbln18 was neuromast‐restricted and Tulp1 was ampullary organ‐restricted.

Identifying and Mapping Industrial Districts Through a Spatially Constrained Cluster‐Wise Regression Approach

open access: yesJournal of Regional Science, Volume 65, Issue 2, Page 403-428, March 2025.
ABSTRACT The aim of this article is to exploit an innovative spatial econometric approach to map and study the evolving patterns of industrial districts (IDs). The procedure can be classified as a k‐means cluster‐wise regression procedure and is designed to detect homogeneous areas of subcontracting activity.
