Modelling of rational variants of the speed‐skating technique

Journal of Sports Sciences, 1995
An 11-segment planar model of a speed skater's body was developed and computerized. The solution of the inverse dynamics problem made it possible to determine the net joint moments, reaction moments and the mechanical energy expenditures. The modelling of different variants of skating on the straight parts of the circuit revealed the most efficient one

Validity of Lactate Thresholds in Inline Speed Skating

Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, 2015
Lactate thresholds are commonly used as estimates of the highest workload where lactate production and elimination are in equilibrium (maximum lactate steady state [MLSS]). However, because of the high static load on propulsive muscles, lactate kinetics in inline speed skating may differ significantly from other endurance exercise modes. Therefore, the

Body Composition of Olympic Speed Skating Candidates

Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, 1982
Abstract The purpose of this investigation was to quantify the body composition of speed skaters who were candidates for the 1980 United States Olympic Team. Subjects were 19 males between 16 and 27 years of age. Most subjects had just completed three months of intensive dry-land training.

The influence of air friction in speed skating

Journal of Biomechanics, 1982
With the use of a wind tunnel the air friction force Fw on six speed skaters of different body builds was measured. The dependence of the drag coefficient CD on air velocity v and the influence of different skating postures on drag were investigated.
