Biofilm behavior on sulfonated poly(ether-ether-ketone) (sPEEK)

Materials Science and Engineering C, 2017
Poly(ether-ether-ketone) (PEEK) has also shown to be very attractive for incorporating therapeutic compounds thanks to a sulfonation process which modifies the material structure resulting in a sulfonated-PEEK (sPEEK). Concerning biomedical applications, the objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of different sulfonation degree of sPEEK ...

Properties of Composite Membranes of SPEEK and Nanodiamond

MRS Proceedings, 2012
AbstractThe manufacture of composite materials can improve the properties of proton-conducting polymers as membranes in PEM fuel cells. We have investigated composite membranes obtained by dispersion of nanodiamond particles in a sulfonated PolyEtherEtherKetone (SPEEK) matrix. SPEEK is a major proton-conducting aromatic polymer.

Proton Conductivity of SPEEK Membranes

Polymer-Plastics Technology and Engineering, 2010
Novel sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK) copolymers were prepared using a low-viscosity grade PEEK powder. The TGA studies indicated that SPEEK membranes with up to 75% DS have enough thermal stability. The highest conductivity of 2.176 × 10−2 S cm−1 has been observed at 100°C for SP96 (DS = 72%).

Effect of SPEEK content on the morphological and electrical properties of PES/SPEEK blend nanofiltration membranes

Desalination, 2009
Polyethersulfone (PES)/poly (ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) blends nanofiltration membrane at different SPEEK contents were prepared using a simple dry-jet wet spinning technique. The SPEEK polymer with fixed sulfonation degree was used for membrane preparation and characterized using FTIR and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometer.

Effect of IEC and Loading of Cathode SPEEK Binder on Kinetic and Transport Properties of All-SPEEK MEAs

ECS Transactions, 2007
The choice of polyelectrolyte in the catalyst layer is an important consideration in the formation and efficacy of the triple phase boundary. It also influences the stability of the electrolyte/electrode interface for long term fuel cell performance. The polyelectrolyte composition in the electrode has to be optimum for higher Pt utilization and hence

Mesoscale Simulation on the Hydrated Morphologies of SPEEK Membrane

Macromolecular Theory and Simulations, 2021
AbstractProton transport in proton exchange membrane is considered to depend on the hydrophilic domain formed by the microphase separation between hydrophobic and hydrophilic segments of the membrane. Therefore, the study of hydrated morphologies is crucial to understand proton transport.

Mixed conductive blends of SPEEK/PANI

Solid State Ionics, 2005
Abstract Membranes were obtained by solvent evaporation from 70% sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) and polyaniline in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone [NMP] or N,N-dimethyl formamide [DMF]. SPEEK/PANI membranes were studied by UV–Vis spectroscopy, ion-exchange capacity, ionic and electronic conductivity and thermal properties, in order to observe the SPEEK ...

Hybrid SPEEK/Phosphonatedsilsesquioxanes membranes for PEMFC

Nanomaterials and Energy, 2012
In this work, the production and characterization of hybrid membranes of sulfonated poly(ether-ether-ketone; SPEEK) and phosphonated copolysilsesquioxanes (PCs) and its application in proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) were studied. To improve the proton conduction and thermal stability of the polymer SPEEK, PCs were synthesized from ...

Structures and Properties of the Coating for SPEEK/WPU

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2011
SPEEK can be dispersed in water as well as WPU, so the coating for SPEEK/WPU can be obtained in the water, and its films were investigated on the structures and properties by SEM, TGA, Shore Durometer and so forth, the results show that SPEEK as a micro-phase can disperse in WPU phase, and there is a good thermal stability when the temperature is below

Microstructure–Performance Relationships of sPEEK-Based Catalyst Layers

Journal of The Electrochemical Society, 2010
Porous catalyst layers containing sulfonated polyetheretherketone (sPEEK, 1.4 meq g ―1 ) were deposited onto membranes to form catalyst-coated membranes. The catalyst layer properties, as a function of sPEEK content, were studied ex situ and in fuel cells.
