Maintenance of Constant Wave Parameters by Sperm Flagella at Reduced Frequencies of Beat [PDF]

open access: yes, 1973
1. Treatment of Ciona spermatozoa with low concentrations of Triton X-100 (less than 0·01 %) causes them to beat at lower than normal frequencies. The wavelength of the flagellar bending waves remains constant over the range from 10 to 40 Hz.

Chemotaxis of Arbacia punctulata spermatozoa to resact, a peptide from the egg jelly layer [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
Resact, a peptide of known sequence isolated from the jelly layer of Arbacia punctulata eggs, is a potent chemoattractant for A. punctulata spermatozoa. The chemotactic response is concentration dependent, is abolished by pretreatment of the spermatozoa ...

Lactoferrin Deficiency During Lactation Causes Adult Obesity‐Related Metabolic Disease Through Persistent Adipose Dysfunction Driven by Impaired Adipocyte Development

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lactational lactoferrin deficiency exerts lasting effects on epididymal adipose tissue development from lactation into adulthood: it impairs adipocyte hyperplasia and induces pathological hypertrophy, resulting in lower body weight yet exacerbated metabolic dysfunction under a high‐fat diet in adulthood.

Thermostable Bioluminescent Intercalating Dyes for Real‐Time, Integrated Nucleic Acid Amplification and Detection

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
We present a bioluminescent diagnostic platform that integrates DNA amplification and detection in a single step. The engineering of thermostable luciferase‐intercalating dye conjugates and controlled release of caged luciferin substrates enable real‐time, detection of attomolar concentrations of viral DNA within 30 min.

RNA from a simple-tandem repeat is required for sperm maturation and male fertility in Drosophila melanogaster. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Tandemly-repeated DNAs, or satellites, are enriched in heterochromatic regions of eukaryotic genomes and contribute to nuclear structure and function. Some satellites are transcribed, but we lack direct evidence that specific satellite RNAs are required ...

Oligopeptides/DNA Coacervate Droplets as Macromolecular Delivery Microcarriers

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Oligopeptide–DNA coacervates formed via liquid–liquid phase separation serve as programmable carriers for macromolecular cargos, entering cells through lipid raft–associated pathways and subsequently undergoing enzyme triggered intracellular disassembly driven by DNA degradation processes, thereby enabling efficient, controlled, and spatially defined ...

Connecting Droplet Adhesion with Sperm Kinematics: A New Paradigm in Sperm Quality Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces
Conventional microscopy‐driven sperm health monitoring systems suffer from high infrastructural costs and complex protocols. Here, a simple, economical sperm motility assessment system is proposed.

Ongoing graft-versus-host disease is a risk factor for azoospermia after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation: a survey of the Late Effects Working Party of the European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation

open access: yesHaematologica, 2013
The aim of this study was to assess the degree of spermatogenesis defects in sperm analysis in long-term male survivors after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in order to identify the risk factors related to potential infertility after ...

Supramolecular Assembly of Stepped‐Persistent ROS Nanogenerator for Sustained Tumor Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ROS catalytic systems often fail to achieve both effective tumor elimination and persistent immune activation due to their monotonous ROS production profiles. A stepped‐persistent ROS nanogenerator was developed by supramolecularly assembling multiple ROS generation modules within a nanofiber structure to simultaneously extend ROS generation duration ...

The oral-aboral axis of a sea urchin embryo is specified by first cleavage [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Several lines of evidence suggest that the oral-aboral axis in Strongylocentrotus purpuratus embryos is specified at or before the 8-cell stage. Were the oral-aboral axis specified independently of the first cleavage plane, then a random association of ...
