FertDish: microfluidic sperm selection-in-a-dish for intracytoplasmic sperm injection.

Lab on a Chip, 2021
The selection of high quality sperm is critical for intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), a prevalent assisted reproduction technology. However, standard selection methods are time-consuming and fail to recover the most viable sperm, thereby limiting ...

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection

Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 2002
Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) with ejaculated, epididymal or testicular spermatozoa was first successful in 1992 and has since become the widely accepted treatment for couples with severe male-factor infertility. The outcome of several thousands of ICSI cycles in terms of fertilization, embryo cleavage and implantation is similar to that for ...

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection

Science, 1999
The imaginative essay “Sex in an age of mechanical reproduction” by Carl Djerassi (Essays on Science and Society, Science's Compass, 2 July, p. [53][1]), which includes an excerpt from his stage play An Immaculate Misconception , identifies a number of important broad ethical and social ...

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection in the mouse*

Human Reproduction, 1995
Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) into mouse oocytes involves a very low survival rate. This study was designed to determine why ICSI frequently fails in mice. Metaphase II oocytes were obtained from superovulated 4-6 week old F1 hybrid mice. Spermatozoa were retrieved from the epididymis of 12-14 week old F1 hybrid mice.

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection in the rat

Zygote, 1998
We applied intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) to the rat comparing three different sperm injection techniques: conventional setup with a sharp needle bearing a spike (method 1), combination of partial zona dissection (PZD) needle and blunt pipette (method 2) and piezo-injection using a blunt pipette (method 3).

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection in Mice

Cold Spring Harbor Protocols, 2018
Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is the injection of a single spermatozoon directly into the cytoplasm of an oocyte using an injection pipette. Spermatozoa that are used for ICSI do not need to be motile or alive. Indeed, for mouse ICSI, the sperm tail is typically broken off before injection into the oocyte, resulting essentially in a nuclear ...

Is Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection Overused?

Journal of Urology, 2012
We determined whether the use of intracytoplasmic sperm injection in couples who previously underwent intracytoplasmic sperm injection cycles elsewhere could be decreased without compromising the pregnancy rate.At our university in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer center we retrospectively analyzed the records of 149 fresh, in vitro fertilization ...

Robotic Immobilization of Motile Sperm for Clinical Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection

IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, 2019
Objective: In clinical intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), a motile sperm must be immobilized before insertion into an oocyte. This paper aims to develop a robotic system for automated tracking, orientation control, and immobilization of motile ...

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection

2007
As illustrated in this book, many medical and surgical options improve male factor infertility and permit couples to conceive naturally, or with minimal medical intervention. But there are still many conditions where sperm function will remain compromised and thus prevent the fertilization of an egg.

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection – an update

Reproductive Medicine Review, 2001
Infertility, a failure of conception after at least 12 months of unprotected intercourse, will affect 14–17% of couples at some time in their reproductive lives. The types of infertility, with their respective frequencies, are tubal and pelvic pathology (35%), male problems (35%), anovulation (15%), unexplained infertility (10%) and other infrequent ...
