A new subspecies of the African species Spermacoce bequaertii is described and illustrated. This new subspecies (subsp. brevituba is restricted to the Kasai district in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and differs from the typical subspecies in having smaller mature flowers with a glabrous corolla tube inside.
