Osteosarcoma of the Spermatic Cord
Journal of Urology, 1991Malignant tumors of the spermatic cord are rare but the vast majority of these tumors are sarcomas. We report on a patient with osteosarcoma arising in the spermatic cord. Left radical orchiectomy with high dissection of the spermatic cord was performed, and the patient remains free of recurrence 2 years postoperatively.

Prompt recognition and surgical treatment of torsion of the testis can save an organ that otherwise usually becomes the site of hemorrhagic necrosis and eventual atrophy. The condition, though not common, is serious for this reason and should be regarded as a surgical emergency.

Liposarcoma of the spermatic cord is a rare tumor. Most are of a low-grade malignancy, and treatment is wide local excision with radical orchiectomy. At present there is no clear indication for chemotherapy. Because recurrence, especially local recurrence, is a possibility, periodic followup is necessary.

Early diagnosis and surgical correction are mandatory to maintain a viable testicle and provide the best chance for future function.
