Sorbitol Dehydrogenase in Spermatozoa
Nature, 1958IT has been shown previously that the addition of sorbitol to actively respiring suspensions of washed, motile ram spermatozoa causes an increase in the consumption of oxygen, accompanied by an oxidative conversion of sorbitol to fructose and followed by the aerobic glycolytic breakdown of fructose to lactic acid1.

Screening for canine spermatozoa
Science & Justice, 2001A case is presented in which possible canine spermatozoa were encountered in the routine examination of sexual assault evidence. Some observations and difficulties concerning the detection of canine spermatozoa are discussed. A possible visual screening method for canine sperm cells is offered, involving conventional forensic/histological staining ...

ACETYLCHOLINESTERASE IN BULL SPERMATOZOA
Reproduction, 1964Acetylcholinesterase occurs in the head, midpiece and tail fractions of sonically disrupted bull epididymal spermatozoa. The enzyme exhibits the characteristic substrate concentration optimum; 1\m=.\5X 10-5 m-eserine competitively inhibits the hydrolysis of the acetylcholine.

Cryopreservation of Stallion Spermatozoa
Veterinary Clinics of North America: Equine Practice, 1996The main advantage to using frozen semen in any breeding program is faster genetic gain for the inherited trait desired. Milk production of dairy cows doubled (from 26,000 to 52,000 kg of milk/cow per year) between 1950 and 1980, because the dairy industry was using semen only from bulls with the greatest genetic potential for milk production.

The mechanism of spermatozoal degeneration in male genital tract obstruction was evaluated. Epididymal fine-needle aspiration was performed in 17 azoospermic men with distal obstruction of the genital tract, but in whom testicular cytology revealed adequate spermatogenesis.

Chemotaxis of Rabbit Spermatozoa
Journal of Experimental Biology, 1963ABSTRACT The aim of the study was to determine whether rabbit eggs’attract’ homologous spermatozoa in vivo. Preliminary experiments showed that, in vitro, rabbit spermatozoa readily and irreversibly attach to the zonae of rat eggs.

Cryopreservation of Avian Spermatozoa
2003This chapter describes a simple system for cryopreservation of avian spermatozoa as pellets, formed by dropping volumes of sperm suspension directly into liquid nitrogen with dimethylacetamide as cryoprotectant. The method originates from the group at the Research Institute of Farm Animal Breeding and Genetics at St. Petersburg-Pushkin and is described

Mitochondria: their role in spermatozoa and in male infertility

AbstractAlthough spermatozoa have no organ system, they are the product of organ systems and are of enormous evolutionary importance. Spermatozoa typically possess an acrosome, a nucleus, mitochondria, and a cilium, but these compartments can vary considerably in their shape, arrangement, number, or by being absent.
