Sphalerite-wurtzite equilibria and stoichiometry

Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, 1972
Abstract Evidence from natural occurrences and from published syntheses indicates that the sphalerite-wurtzite inversion is not an invariant reaction at 1020°C, 1 atm but is a univariant function of fs2 and temperature. Single crystals of zinc sulfide, grown in aqueous NaOH solutions which were selected to control fs2, have shown that a univariant ...

Formation of hydrogen peroxide by sphalerite

International Journal of Mineral Processing, 2013
Abstract Formation of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ), an oxidizing agent stronger than oxygen, by sphalerite ((Zn, Fe) S) was examined during its grinding process. It was observed that sphalerite generated H 2 O 2 in pulp liquid during wet grinding and also when the freshly ground solids placed in water immediately after dry grinding.

Sphalerites from western Canada

Economic Geology, 1945
A study of 164 samples of sphalerite, of which 122 are from Western Canada, has confirmed the results of other workers in this field, and particularly those of Stoiber.Western Canada, as a metallogenetic province, is high in gold and tin, but is low in gallium, germanium, and vanadium.

Refractive Indices of Rutile and Sphalerite

Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1951
Prisms were made from single crystals of rutile and sphalerite and used in measuring the refractive indices of these materials. The measurements were made through the visible spectrum and extended to 1.5 microns in the infrared by the use of an infrared sensitive screen. The dispersion curves and the equations for the curves were determined.

Kinetics of Roasting of a Sphalerite Concentrate

2018
In this research, both the kinetics and the mechanisms of the roasting of a sphalerite concentrate from the Bafgh mining complex in Iran were investigated. The oxidation process was performed in a muffle furnace in air and the effects of time and temperature on the degree of oxidation of the zinc sulfide sample were quantitatively studied.

EFFECTS OF pH ON ELECTROFLOTATION OF SPHALERITE

Chemical Engineering Communications, 1996
Abstract Electroflotation studies on sphalerite fine particles, conducted under careful pH control using buffer electrolytes, reveal that for either H2 or 02 electrolytic gases there exists an optimum pH range at which electroflotation is most effective.

Experimental Calibration of the Sphalerite Geobarometer

Economic Geology, 1973
The composition of sphalerite in equilibrium with pyrite + hexagonal pyrrhotite promises to be a useful geobarometer (Scott and Barnes, 1971). Solvus isobars were accurately located by hydrothermally recrystallizing sphalerite + pyrite + hexagonal pyrrhotite in aqueous alkali halide fluxes at 2.5, 5, and 7.5 kb between 325 degrees and 710 degrees C ...

Grain boundaries in the sphalerite structure

Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids, 1964
Abstract Corresponding in geometry to each grain boundary in germanium there are two boundaries of, in general, markedly different bond character in sphalerite. It is geometrically possible for grain boundaries to occur which contain (a) wrong bonds of one kind only, (b) equal numbers of both kinds of wrong bonds, (c) wrong and broken bonds all of ...

Crystals with a Sphalerite-Type Lattice

1979
Crystals with a sphalerite-type† lattice, characterized by a tetrahedral distribution of atoms, have a relatively simple crystal structure and are suitable for theoretical calculations. For a long time, these crystals have been the object of study in order to test both old and new theoretical and experimental methods of examining the band structure of ...
