Restos de pingüinos del cenozoico medio de la Cordillera Patagónica [PDF]
Middle Cenozoic marine fossil-bearing beds crop out in the Cerro Plataforma (western Chubut Province, Argentina) at about 1,400 m a.s.l. They are located 500 km far from the modern Atlantic coast and only 50 km from the Pacific Ocean.

Multiple cenozoic invasions of Africa by penguins (Aves, Sphenisciformes) [PDF]
Africa hosts a single breeding species of penguin today, yet the fossil record indicates that a diverse array of now-extinct taxa once inhabited southern African coastlines. Here, we show that the African penguin fauna had a complex history involving multiple dispersals and extinctions.

Microsatellite typing of avian clinical and environmental isolates of Aspergillus fumigatus [PDF]
Aspergillosis is one of the most common causes of death in captive birds. Aspergillosis in birds is mainly caused by Aspergillus fumigatus, a ubiquitous and opportunistic saprophyte.

Gastrointestinal helminths of Adélie penguins (Pygoscelis adeliae) from Antarctica
Knowledge about parasitic organisms in Antarctica is scarce and fragmentary. The study reported here adds to the knowledge of gastrointestinal parasites of the Adélie penguin (Pygoscelis adeliae) (Sphenisciformes), from 25 de Mayo/King George Island ...

Three IgH isotypes, IgM, IgA and IgY are expressed in Gentoo penguin and zebra finch. [PDF]
Previous studies on a limited number of birds suggested that the IgD-encoding gene was absent in birds. However, one of our recent studies showed that the gene was definitely expressed in the ostrich and emu.

Avian Lifespan Network Reveals Shared Mechanisms and New Key Players in Animal Longevity. [PDF]
In this work, we found that birds with similar lifespans exhibit convergent evolution in specific genes, suggesting that shared evolutionary pressures shape the genetic basis of lifespan similarity across species. By investigating protein–protein interactions across genes evolving convergently in long‐ and short‐lived species, we identified a network ...
