Sphere Packing with Limited Overlap [PDF]

open access: yesCoRR, 2014
The classical sphere packing problem asks for the best (infinite) arrangement of non-overlapping unit balls which cover as much space as possible. We define a generalized version of the problem, where we allow each ball a limited amount of overlap with other balls. We study two natural choices of overlap measures and obtain the optimal lattice packings

Structural similarity between dry and wet sphere packings

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2019
The mechanical properties of granular materials change significantly in the presence of a wetting liquid which creates capillary bridges between the particles. This results e.g.

Specific volume of the most probable disordered sphere packings [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
Most granular materials are made of randomly distributed grains. Theoretical and experimental studies, carried on by several authors, have shown that minimum and maximum specific densities of random packings vary primarily according to the type of strain,

Sphere Packings in 212 Dimensions

open access: yesAxioms
This paper investigates cylindrical sphere packings, that is, patterns of uniform spheres with mutually disjoint interiors which are all tangent to a common cylinder.

Effect of void ratio on soil-water retention curves of silty sands using a pore network model derived from sphere packs [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
This study explores the effect of void ratio on soil-water retention curves (SWRCs) in silty sands and sands using a pore network model (PNM) applied to artificial sphere packs. This method enables a detailed analysis of pore size distributions and their

Generating dense packings of hard spheres by soft interaction design

open access: yesSciPost Physics, 2018
Packing spheres efficiently in large dimension $d$ is a particularly difficult optimization problem. In this paper we add an isotropic interaction potential to the pure hard-core repulsion, and show that one can tune it in order to maximize a lower ...

Synthesis and Characterization of Low Density PMMA-based Microballoons [PDF]

open access: yesعلوم و تکنولوژی پلیمر, 2013
Hollow microspheres or microballoons are gas-filled spherical particles with diameters between 1 to 1000 micrometers. The wall material may be made from glass, ceramic oxides, polymers or even metals.

Sphere packings in Euclidean space with forbidden distances

open access: yesForum of Mathematics, Sigma
In this paper, we study the sphere packing problem in Euclidean space where we impose additional constraints on the separations of the center points. We prove that any sphere packing in dimension $48$ , with spheres of radii r, such that no two ...

New sign uncertainty principles

open access: yesDiscrete Analysis, 2023
New sign uncertainty principles, Discrete Analysis 2023:9, 46 pp. The famous Heisenberg uncertainty principle is an inequality that states that the product of the variances of a function $f$ and its Fourier transform $\hat f$ is bounded below by an ...

Central Nervous System Neuroblastoma, FOXR2‐Activated: A Pooled Analysis of Published Clinical Outcomes

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Central nervous system (CNS) neuroblastoma, FOXR2‐activated, is a recently recognized entity in the WHO CNS5 classification, defined by activation of the FOXR2 transcription factor and unique histopathological features. This review synthesizes available literature and pooled clinical data, providing insight into demographics ...
