Spherical Wavelets and Their Applications to Image Representation

Journal of Visual Communication and Image Representation, 1993
Abstract The present paper concerns the applications of spherical wavelets to image representation by means of spherical wavelet transforms. The following special cases of interest in image representation, and in biological and computer vision, are discussed: 2- and 3-D rigid motion, similarities, and 2-D projective group obtained from 3-D camera ...

Representations of elastic fields of circular dislocation and disclination loops in terms of spherical harmonics and their application to various problems of the theory of defects

open access: yesInternational Journal of Solids and Structures, 2010
Elastic fields of circular dislocation and disclination loops are represented in explicit form in terms of spherical harmonics, i.e. via series with Legendre and associated Legendre polynomials.

Spherical tensor representation

Archive for Rational Mechanics and Analysis, 1980
The equivalence of "irreducibility" is discussed as characterizing symmetric and traceless tensors on the one hand and group-theoretica l properties on the other. The relation between the two points of view is shown explicitly by expressing the tensorial spherical harmonics in terms of scalar spherical harmonics and vice versa.

A spherical robot-centered representation for urban navigation

2010 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems, 2010
This paper describes a generic method for vision-based navigation in real urban environments. The proposed approach relies on a representation of the scene based on spherical images augmented with depth information and a spherical saliency map, both constructed in a learning phase. Saliency maps are built by analyzing useful information of points which

Representations of isocontours on a spherical head

Proceedings of the Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 1992
A visualization technique was developed to generate and display magnetic field isocontours on a wireframe spherical head model. The data are obtained by simulated measurements of the magnetic field generated by a set of neuronal sources. This presentation is particulary useful for displaying widespread activity.

The Spherical Representation of Vocational Interests

Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1996
Abstract We report the development, examination, and replication of a spherical structure of vocational interests. A sample of 266 undergraduate students were asked to give their preferences to a sample of 229 occupational titles. The principal components analysis conducted on the item level responses supported the presence of the prestige component ...

The representation of colors in spherical space

Color Research & Application, 2008
AbstractColor scaling experiments have established that perceived colors are distributed on the surface of a hypersphere in spherical space. A formal mathematical model of the color space is defined. Color differences as estimated by an observer are equal to the chord distance between corresponding points on the surface in spherical space.

Spherical Harmonics Representation of an Inhomogeneous Plane Wave

SIAM Review, 1995
Scattering by a plane wave is a vital diagnostic tool for nondestructive evaluation of materials. In a variety of problems scatterers are approximated as objects of spherical shapes. Thus, plane wave scattering by spherical bodies has been an important area of study.

A spherical representation of the Smith chart

IEEE Microwave Magazine, 2007
In this article a limitation of the conventional 2D Smith chart has been highlighted and discussed. An extension to the Smith chart has been proposed in an attempt to overcome these limitations. The extension involved transforming the 2D impedance plane into three dimensions and mapping it onto the surface of a sphere.
