Evaluation of the Sphincter Pharyngoplasty

The Cleft Palate Craniofacial Journal, 1992
The results of the sphincter pharyngoplasty were evaluated In 139 patients with velopharyngeal Incompetence (VPI) who demonstrated active velar elevation. All patients underwent perceptual speech evaluation and lateral phonation radiographic study; select patients underwent multiview videofluoroscopic, flexible nasendoscoplc, and pressure-flow studies.

SPHINCTERS OF THE LARYNX

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1954
THE PRODUCTION of sound is not the fundamental reason for the existence of the mammalian larynx, for there are mammals with larynges and no voices and, on the other hand, mammals with voices and no larynges. The two do not necessarily go together. Since this is true, what then is the basic purpose of the larynx?

Stenosis of the Sphincter of Oddi

Surgical Clinics of North America, 1990

Sphincter of Oddi Motility

Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology, 1996
Technical improvement in endoscopic and manometric technique has allowed direct manometry of the human sphincter of Oddi (SO). The aim of the present review is to describe the present status of physiologic and clinical knowledge of the SO, with emphasis on contributions from Danish Gastroenterology. The SO is a zone with an elevated basal pressure with ...

Sphincter of Oddi and Pancreatic Sphincter Dysmotility [PDF]

open access: possible, 1999
How a sphincter that controls the flow of bile and pancreatic juice may cause pain and suffering is based on an understanding of fluid hydraulics. The basic concept that allows one not only to investigate, but to understand the mechanisms and the etiologies that revolve around sphincter of Oddi dysfunction (SOD) is the concept that fluids are non ...

Sphincter Pharyngoplasty

2015
First described in 1950 by Hynes for patients with velopharyngeal insufficiency following cleft palate repair, the sphincter pharyngoplasty is a frequently used procedure for treating velopharyngeal insufficiency that rivals the pharyngeal flap in some centers as the most frequently used procedure.

Sphincter Pharyngoplasty

Clinics in Plastic Surgery, 1985
A modified version of sphincter pharyngoplasty, based on the work of Hynes and especially Orticochea, is described. The main benefit accruing from this technique is a scar-free sphincter mechanism in the correct position and therefore, it is hoped, with more physiologic function.

Sphincter of oddi manometry

Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, 1996
In 1887, Ruggero Oddi, described the sphincter of Oddi (SO) (1). But until recently, problems related to sphincter of Oddi dysfunction were either poorly diagnosed or were treated empirically with surgery. The introduction of endoscopie retrograde examination of the biliary and pancreatic ducts provided an opportunity for evaluating the sphincter ...
