Current Gastroenterology Reports, 2010
Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction (SOD) is a poorly-understood disorder, typically presenting as postcholecystectomy, "biliary-type," right-sided abdominal and/or chest wall pain. Most patients referred to specialist clinics for work-up of presumed SOD do not, in fact, have anything wrong with their bile ducts or biliary sphincter mechanisms.

Current Treatment Options in Gastroenterology, 2005
Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction (SOD) is a benign noncalculous obstruction of bile or pancreatic drainage at the level of the sphincter of Oddi. The disorder is clinically associated with either biliary pain or idiopathic pancreatitis, depending on the portion of the sphincter affected.

International journal of pancreatology, 1996
Evidence continues to accumulate indicating that sphincter of Oddi dysfunction may give rise to cholestasis, pancreatitis, or upper abdominal pain syndromes. Diagnosis of such dysfunction may be inferred from noninvasive tests or more precisely defined by manometric studies. Both the biliary and pancreatic sphincters are commonly involved.

Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction (SOD) is a well-known risk factor for postendoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) pancreatitis (PEP). Following failed ERCP, endoscopic ultrasonographyguided biliary drainage (EUS-BD) has been established as a ...

Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction (SOD) refers to structural alterations (stenosis) or functional abnormalities (dyskinesia) of the sphincter of Oddi that can impede biliary and pancreatic duct flow, causing recurrent upper abdominal pain with or without abnormalities of liver or pancreatic chemistries or dilated duct.
