Biliary Fascioliasis Mimicking Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction
Southern Medical Journal, 2010Fasciola hepatica, a liver fluke of livestock, rarely presents as chronic biliary tract infection in humans. We report a 38-year-old woman from Ethiopia who presented with right upper quadrant pain and a dilated common bile duct on ultrasound and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) without other abnormalities.

Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction in hypercholesterolemic rabbits
European Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, 2008The mechanisms that trigger gallbladder evacuation dysfunction, the key risk factor for gallstone formation, have not yet been fully elucidated. The sphincter of Oddi (SO) plays important roles in the regulation of gallbladder evacuation and maintenance of normal hydraulic pressure of the biliary tract.

Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction: A clinical controversy
Gastroenterology, 1988This report analyzes the literature on sphincter of Oddi dysfunction as it applies to biliary-type pain. The sensitivities and specificities of the tests used to diagnose this condition (e.g., size of bile duct, drainage time of bile duct, provocative tests with morphine, sphincter of Oddi manometry) are poorly defined.
