Flight is the key to postprandial blood glucose balance in the fruit bats Eonycteris spelaea and Cynopterus sphinx

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2017
Excessive sugar consumption could lead to high blood glucose levels that are harmful to mammalian health and life. Despite consuming large amounts of sugar‐rich food, fruit bats have a longer lifespan, raising the question of how these bats overcome ...

Pollinator, herbivore, and climatic selective pressures differ across a floral color transition zone

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, Volume 113, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Premise Spatial and temporal variations in climate and ecological interactions may underlie the origin and maintenance of floral color polymorphisms across a species range. Betalains are nitrogen‐containing, phylogenetically restricted pigments that, like the widespread and well‐studied anthocyanins and carotenoids, may attract pollinators ...

Alternating‐contrast single‐shot spiral MR‐ARFI with model‐based displacement map reconstruction

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, Volume 95, Issue 1, Page 457-464, January 2026.
Abstract Purpose To improve single‐shot spiral MR‐Acoustic Radiation Force Imaging (MR‐ARFI)'s robustness to dynamic phase errors and evaluate it in non‐human primates (NHPs) with a low‐f‐number transducer. Methods A single‐shot spiral MR‐ARFI pulse sequence with 2 mm in‐plane resolution and alternating displacement phase contrast was implemented to ...

IDPEnsembleTools: An open‐source library for analysis of conformational ensembles of disordered proteins

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) lack stable tertiary structure and instead exist as dynamic ensembles of conformations, playing essential roles in cellular regulation, signaling, and disease. As structural ensembles of IDPs become increasingly available through databases such as the Protein Ensemble Database (PED) and various ...

The SPHINX M Dwarf Spectral Grid. II. New Model Atmospheres and Spectra to Derive the Fundamental Properties of Mid-to-late Type M Dwarfs

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
M dwarfs are the most dominant stars in the Galaxy. Their interiors and atmospheres exhibit complex processes including dust condensation, convective feedback, and magnetic activity-driven heterogeneity.

Solar X-rays from Axions: Rest-Mass Dependent Signatures

open access: yes, 2010
The spectral shape of solar X-rays is a power law. The more active the Sun is, the less steep the distribution. This behaviour can be explained by axion regeneration to X-rays occurring ~400km deep into the photosphere.
