Egg morphology, larval development and description of the oncomiracidium of Heterobothrium ecuadori (Monogenea: Diclidophoridae) parasitising the bullseye pufferfish, Sphoeroides annulatus

open access: yesHelminthologia, 2011
First attempts at culturing Sphoeroides annulatus (bullseye puffer fish) resulted in recurrent parasitic infestations caused by the monogenea Heterobothrium ecuadori and the dinoflagellate Amyloodinium ocellatum, both of which are associated to mortality events in other cultured species.

Kudoa dianae sp. n. (Myxosporea: Multivalvulida), a new parasite of bullseye puffer, Sphoeroides annulatus (Tetraodontiformes: Tetraodontidae) [PDF]

open access: yesFolia Parasitologica, 2002
A new multivalvulid myxosporean species, Kudoa dianae sp. n., is described from bullseye puffer, Sphoeroides annulatus (Jenyns) (Tetraodontiformes: Tetraodontidae). Plasmodia develop in extramuscular sites, in the wall of oesophagus and less frequently on mesenteries.

Reproductive aspects of Sphoeroides annulatus (Jenyns, 1842) (Tetraodontiformes, Tetraodontidae) inhabiting the Mazatlan coast, Sinaloa, Mexico [PDF]

open access: yesRevista De Biologia Marina Y Oceanografia, 2007

Identification of platyhelminth parasites of the wild bullseye pufferfish (Sphoeroides annulatus Jenyns, 1853) using invariant digital color correlation [PDF]

open access: yesRevista De Biologia Marina Y Oceanografia, 2006

Population structure and reproductive aspects of puffer fish Sphoeroides annulatus (Jenyns, 1842) (Osteichthyes: Tetraodontidae), landed in Teacapán, Sinaloa, Mexico

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Aquatic Research, 2014
The puffer fish Sphoeroides annulatus is an important target species for the artisanal fishing fleets of NW Mexico. To obtain information on population structure of the local stock, we determined the total length and total weight (TL and TW) ranges, sex ...

DNA barcoding of marine rocky reef fishes from northern Peru suggests a parapatric speciation in the Tropical Eastern Pacific. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Using a DNA barcoding technique we found evidence that reinforce the hypotheses of how parapatric speciation could drive the origin of new species in the TEP. Abstract Northern Peru marks the end of an extensive coastal marine region: The Panama province, which is characterized by predominantly tropical and equatorial features and is home to the only ...

A 12‐year retrospective review of tetrodotoxin poisoning in Hong Kong

open access: yesHong Kong Journal of Emergency Medicine, Volume 30, Issue 2, Page 111-116, March 2023., 2023
Introduction: Tetrodotoxin poisoning is typically caused by puffer fish consumption. This study is to review its demographics, clinical presentations and management in Hong Kong. Method: Reported cases of tetrodotoxin poisoning to Hong Kong Poison Information Centre from October 2008 to March 2021 were included in the study. Information from electronic
