Population aspects of Sphoeroides testudineus (Tetraodontiformes: Tetraodontidae)

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2015
The Tetraodontidae contains about 184 species (Matsuura, 2014), but recent studies have shown the existence of complex and new species in this fishes (Moura e Castro, 2002; Walker and Bussing, 1996; Amaral et al., 2013; Kottelat et al., 2013). Preliminary genetic analysis of Sphoeroides testudineus were conducted with mitochondrial genes ATPase 6-8 ...

Metabolic substrates are not mobilized from the osmoregulatory organs (gills and kidney) of the estuarine pufferfishes Sphoeroides greeleyi and S. testudineus upon short-term salinity reduction [PDF]

open access: yesNeotropical Ichthyology, 2008
The marine-estuarine species of pufferfishes Sphoeroides testudineus and S. greeleyi are very efficient osmoregulators. However, they differ with respect to their tolerance of salinity reduction. During low tide S. testudineus remains in diluted estuarine waters, whereas S. greeleyi returns to seawater (SW).

Environmental DNA (eDNA) reveals potential for interoceanic fish invasions across the Panama Canal. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol, 2023
The Panama Canal is a key region for biotic exchange as it connects the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans in Central America. In this study, we used two complementary methods (environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding and gillnetting) to survey fish communities in this unique waterway.

Hábitos alimenticios de Sphoeroides testudineus (Perciformes: Tetraodontidae) en el sistema lagunar de Ría Lagartos, Yucatán, México Feeding habits of Sphoeroides testudineus (Perciformes: Tetraodontidae) in the lagoon system of Ria Lagartos, Yucatán, Mexico
