A two year study of verified spider bites in Switzerland and a review of the European spider bite literature

Toxicon, 2013
During a two-year study, all spider bites recorded by Swiss primary care physicians were reported to the Swiss Toxicological Information Centre and all collected spiders were identified. A total of 14 verified spider bites were recorded, involving five species from four families: Zoropsis spinimana (five cases), Cheiracanthium punctorium (four cases ...

Over 40 years with jumping spiders: on the 70th birthday of Wanda Wesołowska

Zootaxa, 2020
Professor Wanda Wesołowska (maiden name Nowysz)—an internationally recognised expert in the taxonomy of jumping spiders (Araneae: Salticidae)—was born in Włocławek (Central Poland) on 11 August 1950. Wanda spent her youth and received her primary and secondary education in Szczecin (NW Poland).

Ten‐year responses of ground‐dwelling spiders to retention harvest in the boreal forest

Ecological Applications, 2016
AbstractThe Ecosystem Management Emulating Natural Disturbances (EMEND) project tests the hypothesis that varying levels of green tree retention maintain and retain forest biodiversity better than conventional clear‐cutting. We studied epigaeic spiders to assess biodiversity changes 2, 5, and 10 yr following a range of partial retention harvests (clear‐

Status of the SPIDER source after 3.5 years operation

2022
A combination of additional heating and current drive systems is necessary for ITER to reach fusion conditions and to control plasma configuration. Among them, two Neutral Beam Injectors (NBI) will provide 33MW hydrogen/deuterium particles, electrostatically accelerated to 1 MeV.

SPIDER ion source and extraction power supplies - An update of the design of the bias circuits after four years of operation

Fusion Engineering and Design, 2023
SPIDER, the ion source prototype for ITER neutral beam injectors, has been in operation since 2018. The experiment includes a system of Ion Source and Extraction Power Supplies (ISEPS), whose design dates back to 2011. Since then the experience gained has led to substantial changes, the most dramatic modification being the complete replacement of the ...

Four Year Experiments on the Control of the Red-Spider

Journal of Economic Entomology, 1924
General notes are given as to the status of the Red spider Paraletranychus pilosus C. & F., in Pennsylvania. Two methods of control, the delayed-dormant and summer applications are discussed. Miscible oils in the delayed dormant kill a large percentage of the eggs while lime sulphur has been found ineffective.

Lessons learned after three years of SPIDER operation and the first MITICA integrated tests

2022
ITER envisages the use of 2+1 heating neutral beam injectors as part of the auxiliary heating and current drive system, to help demonstrate the desired goals during its various phases of operation. The 16.5 MW expected neutral beam power per injector is several notches higher than worldwide existing facilities.

Effects of extreme climatic events on small-scale spatial patterns: a 20-year study of the distribution of a desert spider

Oecologia, 2012
Individuals of most animal species are non-randomly distributed in space. Extreme climatic events are often ignored as potential drivers of distribution patterns, and the role of such events is difficult to assess. Seothyra henscheli (Araneae, Eresidae) is a sedentary spider found in the Namib dunes in Namibia. The spider constructs a sticky-edged silk

Prey caught by a sample population of the spider Argiope argentata (Araneae: Araneidae) in Panama: a year's census data

Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society, 1970
The prey caught by mature female Argiope argentata was censused over a period of one year. Ten webs (when available) were examined five times each day, at two-hourly intervals, between 09.00 and 17.00 hours. The prey-animals seen in the webs were classified into orders and lower taxa, where possible.
