Joint SPIHT compression and selective encryption

Applied Soft Computing, 2014
Abstract JCSE-SPIHT, an algorithm of joint compression and selective encryption based on set partitioning in hierarchical trees (SPIHT), is proposed to achieve image encryption and compression simultaneously. It can protect SPIHT compressed images by only fast scrambling a tiny portion of crucial data during the coding process while keeping all the ...

SPIHT implemented in a XC4000 device

The 2002 45th Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2002. MWSCAS-2002., 2003
In this paper we present an efficient FPGA implementation of the 'Set Partitioning in Hierarchical Trees' (SPIHT) algorithm of Said and Pearlman (1996) in combination with an arithmetic coder. The FPGA implementation is applied within a partitioned approach for wavelet-based lossy image compression.

An effective improvement on 3D SPIHT

2012 International Conference on Image Analysis and Signal Processing, 2012
As an extension of 2D SPIHT, 3D SPIHT inherits the properties of 2D SPIHT, and is suited very well large for volume data compression such as video, medical images, and multispectral images. But it still contains a great deal of redundant search, having not fully improved coding speed.

Modified SPIHT encoding for SAR image data

Proceedings DCC'99 Data Compression Conference (Cat. No. PR00096), 1999
Summary form only given. We developed a wavelet-based SAR image compression algorithm which combines tree-structured texture analysis, soft-thresholding speckle reduction, quadtree homogeneous decomposition, and a modified zero-tree coding scheme. First, the tree-structured wavelet transform is applied to the SAR image.

Compression of Mammography Image by SPIHT and Fractals

2011
The use of all types of Radio image, Echo, MRI... poses a major problem of storage and of filing as example a hospital of 200 beds produces each year 875 Gb of data and so of such images must be transmitted via a network; the duration of transmission is often too long; as a stage has all these problems; compression becomes an operation imperative and ...

Multichannel EEG compression based on ICA and SPIHT

Biomedical Signal Processing and Control, 2015
Abstract In this paper, we propose a novel approach for the compression of multichannel electroencephalograph (EEG) signals. The method assumes that EEG signals are the linear mixture of several independent components (ICs). To retain the ICs, the proposed scheme first applies an independent component analysis (ICA) with a preprocessing step of ...

Vector Quantization in SPIHT Image Codec

2006
The image coding algorithm “Set Partitioning in Hierarchical Trees (SPIHT)” introduced by Said and Pearlman achieved an excellent rate-distortion performance by an efficient ordering of wavelet coefficients into subsets and bit plane quantization of significant coefficients.

Generalization of SPIHT: Set Partition Coding System

IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2016
This paper constructs a set partition coding system (SPACS) to combine the advantages of different types of set partition coding algorithms. General tree (GT) is an important conception introduced in this paper, which can represent tree set and square set simultaneously.

Shadow SPIHT with Discarded Lists

2015 1st International Conference on Next Generation Computing Technologies (NGCT), 2015
Various methods and algorithms have been designed and implemented for the purpose of image compression. These techniques are highly valuable as the present day networking system is widening day by day and there is an emerging requirement to shrink the size of images for their quick and efficient transfer.

Iris recognition with image compression using SPIHT

Proceedings of the International Conference and Workshop on Emerging Trends in Technology, 2010
Iris recognition is used to identify people. A biometric system provides automatic identification of an individual based on a unique feature or characteristic possessed by the individual. Commercial iris recognition systems are used, to allow access to secure areas, and for secure access to computer networks.
