Spikelet Sterility is Associated with a Lack of Assimilate in High‐Spikelet‐Number Rice

Agronomy Journal, 2013
New rice (Oryza sativa L.) genotypes bearing a high spikelet number (HS) occasionally cannot show their high yield potentials due to the lower grain‐filling rate. Our objectives were to evaluate the effect of spikelet sterility on grain filling in HS cultivars and to determine whether the assimilation factor around anthesis is related to spikelet ...

Temperature Effects on the Duration of the Spikelet Growth Phase and Spikelet Abortion in Barley

Journal of Agronomy and Crop Science, 1996
AbstractAbove optimal temperatures in cereals, when measured in thermal time units (°Cd) can lead to underprediction of developmental events by models, particularly when cereals are sown late in Mediterranean‐type environments or grown under subtropical conditions.

The spikelet in Cyperaceae

The Botanical Review, 1948
The following paper was written after I had prepared a revised account of the Cyperaceae of the Malay Peninsula. I can not claim first hand acquaintance with Cyperaceae of other regions, nor to have consulted all the literature. I have, however, been impressed with the need to investigate more fully the tropical members of the family, and I have been ...

Hormonal Regulation of Spikelet Development

2021
Many of the identified panicle development genes of the rice plants are homologous to known hormone genes. The class of plant hormones includes both positive and negative growth regulators. In rice, hormone-related biosynthetic pathways have been targeted for yield improvement since long bereft of any yield advantage hitherto.

Thermo-Sensitive Spikelet Defects 1acclimatizes rice spikelet initiation and development to high temperature

Plant Physiology, 2022
AbstractCrop reproductive development is vulnerable to heat stress, and the genetic modulation of thermotolerance during the reproductive phase, especially the early stage, remains poorly understood. We isolated a Poaceae-specific FAR-RED ELONGATED HYPOCOTYLS3 (FHY3)/FAR-RED IMPAIRED RESPONSE1 (FAR1)family transcription factor, Thermo-sensitive ...

A Proliferation of the Sorghum Spikelets.

Madras Agricultural Journal, 1942
An interesting phenomenon of proliferation of a sorghum earhead was observed in the summer season of 1940 in a seed multiplication plot of an yellow grain sorghum strain (A. S. 809). While removing rogues at the flowering time, one earhead was observed to have rather longer spikelets, though in other respects, the plant was normal.

Morphology of the Spikelet of Streptochaeta

Bulletin of the Torrey Botanical Club, 1951
grass flower was based on the assumption that it was derived from the pentacyclic trimerous type which is more or less characteristic of monocotyledons, and that reduction of the perianth occurred in connection with a change from insect to wind pollination.

Inheritance of supernumerary spikelets in wheat

Euphytica, 1983
The inheritance of supernumerary spikelets was found to be controlled by two recessive genes with evidence for the possibility of a repressor(s) in crosses between normal and supernumerary spikelet wheats. In experimental lines with phenotypically normal heads but possessing the recessive supernumerary spikelet gene(s), increases in the number of nodes
