Identification and validation of QTLs for cold tolerance at the booting stage and other agronomic traits in a rice cross of a Japanese tolerant variety, Hananomai, and a NERICA parent, WAB56-104

open access: yesPlant Production Science, 2018
In Africa, cold temperatures occur in the highlands of East and Southern Africa and in some areas of the Sahel region of West Africa leading to substantial rice yield losses.

Carbon isotope discrimination and yield of upland rice as affected by drought at flowering [PDF]

open access: yesPesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira, 2000
Field experiments involving upland rice genotypes, sown in various dates in late season, were carried out to assess the relationship of carbon isotope discrimination with grain yield and drought resistance.

Efficient Dynamics: Reduced‐Order Modeling of the Time‐Dependent Schrödinger Equation

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
Reduced‐order modeling (ROM) approaches for the time‐dependent Schrödinger equation are investigated, highlighting their ability to simulate quantum dynamics efficiently. Proper Orthogonal Decomposition, Dynamic Mode Decomposition, and Reduced Basis Methods are compared across canonical systems and extended to higher dimensions.

Independent genetic factors control floret number and spikelet number in Triticum turgidum ssp.

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Wheat grain yield is a complex trait resulting from a trade-off among many distinct components. During wheat evolution, domestication events and then modern breeding have strongly increased the yield potential of wheat plants, by enhancing spike ...

Genome-Wide Association Mapping Reveals Novel Putative Gene Candidates Governing Reproductive Stage Heat Stress Tolerance in Rice

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2022
Temperature rise predicted for the future will severely affect rice productivity because the crop is highly sensitive to heat stress at the reproductive stage.

Floret development and grain setting differences between modern durum wheats under contrasting nitrogen availability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Wheat yield depends on the number of grains per square metre, which in turn is related to the number of fertile florets at anthesis. The dynamics of floret generation/degeneration were studied in contrasting conditions of nitrogen (N) and water ...

‘When joy comes your way, you have to grab it!’ Troubling how queer joy features in the lives of LGBT+ school‐attending youth in South Africa

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Recently, the concept ‘queer joy’ has gained interest in LGBT+ scholarship in the West. I use this scholarship as an entry point to explore how school‐attending LGBT+ youth express joy and how joy serves as a form of resistance against gender and sexuality norms in educational settings.

Genetic variability and character association for earliness, yield and its contributing traits in F2 population of rice (Oryza sativa L.)

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Plant Breeding, 2018
Variability studies revealed that considerable amount of variability exist in the F2 population of rice cross CB 08504 × Prasanna through high values of PCV and GCV for characters like number of filled grains per panicle, spikelet fertility percentage ...

Identification of a candidate gene for a QTL for spikelet number per spike on wheat chromosome arm 7AL by high-resolution genetic mapping. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Key messageA high-resolution genetic map combined with haplotype analyses identified a wheat ortholog of rice gene APO1 as the best candidate gene for a 7AL locus affecting spikelet number per spike.

Identification of Novel QTLs for Spikelet Fertility, Panicle Compactness and Phytohormone Ethylene to Decipher Poor Grain Filling of Basal Spikelets in Dense Panicle Rice

open access: yes, 2021
Abstract High grain number is positively correlated with grain yield in rice, but it is compromised because of poor filling of basal spikelets in dense panicle bearing numerous spikelets. The phenomenon that turns the basal spikelets of compact panicle sterile in rice is largely unknown.
