Rashba spin-orbit interaction enhanced by graphene in-plane deformations

open access: yesCondensed Matter Physics, 2017
Graphene consists in a single-layer carbon crystal where 2p_z electrons display a linear dispersion relation in the vicinity of the Fermi level, conveniently described by a massless Dirac equation in 2+1 spacetime.

Hole Spin Helix: Anomalous Spin Diffusion in Anisotropic Strained Hole Quantum Wells

open access: yes, 2014
We obtain the spin-orbit interaction and spin-charge coupled transport equations of a two-dimensional heavy hole gas under the influence of strain and anisotropy. We show that a simple two-band Hamiltonian can be used to describe the holes.

Zitterbewegung of a heavy hole in presence of spin-orbit interactions

open access: yes, 2015
We study the $zitterbewegung$ of a heavy hole in presence of both cubic Rashba and cubic Dresselhaus spin-orbit interactions. On contrary to the electronic case, $zitterbewegung$ does not vanish for equal strength of Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit ...

Spin Injection in Indium Arsenide

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2015
In a two dimensional electron system (2DES), coherent spin precession of a ballistic spin polarized current, controlled by the Rashba spin orbit interaction, is a remarkable phenomenon that’s been observed only recently.

Spin-Phonon coupling parameters from maximally localized Wannier functions and first principles electronic structure: the case of durene single crystal

open access: yes, 2018
Spin-orbit interaction is an important vehicle for spin relaxation. At finite temperature lattice vibrations modulate the spin-orbit interaction and thus generate a mechanism for spin-phonon coupling, which needs to be incorporated in any quantitative ...

Chiral magnetism of magnetic adatoms generated by Rashba electrons

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2017
We investigate long-range chiral magnetic interactions among adatoms mediated by surface states spin-splitted by spin–orbit coupling. Using the Rashba model, the tensor of exchange interactions is extracted wherein a thepseudo-dipolar interaction is ...
