Helical edge states and edge-state transport in strained armchair graphene nanoribbons
A helical type edge state, which is generally supported only on graphene with zigzag boundaries, is found to also appear in armchair graphene nanoribbons in the presence of intrinsic spin-orbit coupling and a suitable strain.

Topological magneto-optical effects and their quantization in noncoplanar antiferromagnets
Magneto-optical effects in magnets are commonly attributed to the interplay between exchange splitting and spin-orbit coupling. Here, Feng et al. report a topological magneto-optical effect in non-coplanar antiferromagnets due to finite scalar spin ...

Origin of enhanced anomalous Hall effect in ultrathin Pt/permalloy bilayers
There are two mechanisms which could enhance spin-dependent scattering in a low dimensional Pt/Ferromagnetic metal structure. One is magnetic proximity effect. The other is spin orbit coupling proximity effect which was suggested recently.

We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Manipulating polariton condensates by Rashba-Dresselhaus coupling at room temperature
Engineered spin-orbit coupling can induce novel quantum phases in a Bose-Einstein condensate, however such demonstrations have been limited to cold atom systems. Here the authors realize a exciton-polarion condensate with tunable spin-orbit coupling in a

Peripheral lysosomes recruit PLEKHG3 to focal adhesions and restrain protrusion dynamics
Proximity‐dependent labeling at the LAMTOR complex revealed the Rho GEF PLEKHG3 as a lysosome‐proximal protein directing the study toward the influence of lysosome positioning on actin dynamics and cell motility. We show that PLEKHG3 colocalizes with lysosomes at focal adhesion sites and observe that forced peripheral dispersion of lysosomes hinders ...

Dynamical Spin-Orbit Coupling of a Quantum Gas [PDF]
We realize the dynamical 1D spin-orbit-coupling (SOC) of a Bose-Einstein condensate confined within an optical cavity. The SOC emerges through spin-correlated momentum impulses delivered to the atoms via Raman transitions. These are effected by classical pump fields acting in concert with the quantum dynamical cavity field. Above a critical pump power,

This study identifies somatostatin receptor 4 (Sstr4) as a critical tumor suppressor against skin and head/neck cancers (HNSCC, cSCC, and BCC). The loss of Sstr4 removes a check on cell growth, causing hyperactivation of the MAPK‐ERK signaling pathway (↑).

Thermal Spin Orbit Torque with Dresselhaus Spin Orbit Coupling
Based on the spinor Boltzmann equation, we obtain a temperature dependent thermal spin-orbit torque in terms of the local equilibrium distribution function in a two dimensional ferromagnet with Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling. We also derive the continuity equation of spin accumulation and spin current, the spin diffusion equation in Dresselhaus ...
