Aerodynamic Coefficients of a Microspoiler for Spin-Stabilized Projectiles

Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets, 2023
In this paper, the aerodynamic coefficients of a microspoiler for a spin-stabilized projectile are studied using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation. To guarantee an effective study, the CFD simulation methodology is validated by the current literature and a wind-tunnel test.

Aerodynamic Data for Spinning Projectiles

1952
Abstract : This is a collection of the physical and aerodynamic data of spinning projectiles (excluding spin-stabilized rockets) which have been obtained experimentally in the U.S. during the past decade. Some theoretical and empirical formulas are included. The index classifies the projectiles according to their shape.

Aerodynamic Characteristics of Fighter Configurations During Spin Entries and Developed Spins

Journal of Aircraft, 1978
The NASA Langley Research Center is currently conducting a stall/spin research program to define fighter aerodynamics applicable during spin entries and developed spins and to develop analytical methods to use such measured aerodynamics for theoretically calculating these spin motions.

Validation of a multipoint approach for modeling spin aerodynamics

Journal of Aircraft, 1995
during the spin. The rolling-moment and yawing-moment coefficient variations were relatively small, and thus, the steadyspin assumption is reasonable for these quantities. In contrast is the large amplitude of the pitching moment coefficient trace. The maximum and minimum values of the free-spin results are approximately equal to the rotary balance ...

Aerodynamic characteristics of a spinning projectile with elastic deformation

Aerospace Science and Technology, 2016
Abstract The elastic deformation of a spinning projectile with a large slenderness ratio influences its flight stability and maneuverability. Unsteady time-accurate simulation based on a dual-time stepping method and the dynamic mesh method were used to solve the unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (URANS) equations and obtain the aerodynamic ...

Modified spin filter for noise reduction in aerodynamic imaging

Optics & Laser Technology, 1997
A new filtering algorithm was developed for the removal of random noise from digitally imaged aerodynamic flow structures while minimizing geometrical distortion of their shapes. This is a modification of a spin filter previously presented. The algorithm defines a kernel around each pixel and detects the direction of the prevailing pattern passing ...

An evaluation of aerodynamics modeling of spinning light airplanes

21st Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 1983
This paper extends the application of the modified strip theory for wing body combination of a spinning light airplane reported earlier. In addition, to account for the contribution of the tail plane, the shielding effect on vertical tail under steady state spin condition is modeled from basic aerodynamic considerations.

Spinning symmetric missiles in a nonlinear aerodynamic field

1964
The case of a spinning symmetric body flying at a constant speed where the aerodynamic restoring moment is an arbitrary function of the angle of attack is examined. The analysis is twofold: first, the general problem is discussed, in suitable nondimensional form, to establish the generalized stability boundaries and, second, the attention is directed ...
