Coercivity and Exchange Bias in Ti-Doped Maghemite Nanoparticles

open access: yesMagnetochemistry, 2022
Ti-doped maghemite nanoparticles of average crystallite size 12.9 nm were synthesized using the sol–gel method. The XRD profile mainly showed the presence of maghemite phase with very small phases of TiO2 (rutile and anatase).

Glass-forming property of hydroxyectoine is the cause of its superior function as a desiccation protectant

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2014
We were able to demonstrate that hydroxyectoine, in contrast to ectoine, is a good glass-forming compound. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and spin label electron spin resonance (ESR) studies of dry ectoine and hydroxyectoine have shown that the ...

Monte Carlo Studies of the Ordering of the Three-Dimensional Isotropic Heisenberg Spin Glass in Magnetic Fields [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 71, 127 (2002), 2001
Spin and chirality orderings of the three-dimensional Heisenberg spin glass under magnetic fields are studied by large-scale equilibrium Monte Carlo simulations. It is found that the chiral-glass transition and the chiral-glass ordered state, which are essentially of the same character as their zero-field counterparts, occur under magnetic fields.

Two dimensional Ising spin glasses with non-zero ordering temperatures [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
We demonstrate numerically that for Ising spins on square lattices with ferromagnetic second neighbour interactions and random near neighbour interactions, two dimensional Ising spin glass order with a non-zero freezing temperature can occur. We compare some of the physical properties of these spin glasses with those of standard spin glasses in higher ...

Absence of an equilibrium ferromagnetic spin glass phase in three dimensions [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. Lett. 89, 267202 (2002), 2002
Using ground state computations, we study the transition from a spin glass to a ferromagnet in 3-d spin glasses when changing the mean value of the spin-spin interaction. We find good evidence for replica symmetry breaking up till the critical value where ferromagnetic ordering sets in, and no ferromagnetic spin glass phase.

Electronic 1/f noise as a probe of dimensional effects on spin-glass dynamics

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics
Over the past decade, spin-glass simulations have improved to the point that they now access time- and length-scales comparable to experiments at the mesoscale.

Combination of fluorescent and spin labels: a powerful method for the optimization of hydrophilic membranes for the separation of oil-in-water emulsions

open access: yesChimica Techno Acta, 2023
A new method for assessing the quality of fibre coating based on a combination of fluorescence microscopy and electron paramagnetic resonance is presented in this work.

Thermodynamics and Universality for Mean Field Quantum Spin Glasses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We study aspects of the thermodynamics of quantum versions of spin glasses. By means of the Lie-Trotter formula for exponential sums of operators, we adapt methods used to analyze classical spin glass models to answer analogous questions about quantum models.

Monte Carlo study of the ordering of the weakly anisotropic Heisenberg spin glass in magnetic fields [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B70, 144412 (2004), 2004
The ordering of the three-dimensional Heisenberg spin glass with the weak random anisotropy in magnetic fields is studied by extensive equilibrium Monte Carlo simulations. Both the spin and the chirality are monitored. We find strong numerical evidence that a replica symmetry breaking transition occurs in the chiral sector, which accompanies the ...

Using the critical behavior in Zn1−xMnxTe to probe the relationship between quasi-two-dimensional and three-dimensional spin-glasses

open access: yesAIP Advances
Single-crystalline Zn1−xMnxTe is a three-dimensional (3D) monochalcogenide system that exhibits a prominent spin-glass transition at low-temperatures. This system is based on the host ZnTe semiconductor where Mn goes into the lattice substitutionally at ...
