Some Observations on Spins

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1934
Abstract Spins may be divided into two classes, controlled and uncontrolled. In the controlled spin there is immediate response to control, while in the uncontrolled spin the response occurs some time later or even not at all after the controls have been moved.

Direct Observation of Spin-Wave Resonance

Physical Review Letters, 1958
Resonance due to standing spin waves has been observed in thin films of Permalloy. The results are interpreted in terms of the Kittel spin pinning boundary condition and an ω vs k dispersion relation for good conductors. The method leads to a determination of the exchange constant subject to film thickness uncertainty but to a precise determination of ...

Observation of Doubly Spin-Polarized Deuterium by Electron-Spin Resonance

Physical Review Letters, 1986
We have studied spin-polarized deuterium, Darrow-down, in the temperature range 0.3 to 0.7 K in a field of 40 kG using electron-spin resonance at 114 GHz. The intrinsic rates for recombination of two D atoms to form D/sub 2/ on the surface of l-/sup 4/He have been measured for both the ortho and para channels.

Direct observation of the alignment of ferromagnetic spins by antiferromagnetic spins

Nature, 2000
The arrangement of spins at interfaces in a layered magnetic material often has an important effect on the properties of the material. One example of this is the directional coupling between the spins in an antiferromagnet and those in an adjacent ferromagnet, an effect first discovered in 1956 and referred to as exchange bias.

Direct Observation of Spin Gaps in Electron Spin Resonance

Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 2003
The direct electron spin resonance absorption between a singlet ground state and the triplet excited states has been observed in some recent experiments on gapped spin systems, although the transition is forbidden because of the spin conservation law. As possible mechanisms to bring about such a transition, we investigate the effective staggered field ...

Tensor spin observables and spin stucture at low Q2

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2015
We discuss recent spin structure results from Jefferson Lab, and outline an emerging program to study tensor spin observables using solid deuteron targets. These new experiments open the potential to study hidden color, the tensor nature of short range correlations, and to probe for exotic gluonic states.

Spin observables in electron scattering

Czechoslovak Journal of Physics, 2002
In this review, we discuss recent results on elastic and quasi-elastic scattering of polarized electrons from light nuclei, A=1,2,3.

STRUCTURE OF THE NUCLEON: SPIN OBSERVABLES

GDH 2004, 2005
I discuss the spin structure of the nucleon at low photon virtualities in the framework of a Lorentz-invariant formulation of baryon chiral perturbation theory. The structure functions of doubly virtual Compton scattering are calculated to oneloop accuracy.
