Low-field magnetic resonance imaging and multislice computed tomography for the detection of cervical syringomyelia in dogs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background: Syringomyelia (SM) is defined as the presence of fluid- containing cavities within the parenchyma of the spinal cord. Sagittal magnetic resonance (MR) images have been described as the preferred technique for visualizing SMin dogs and humans.

A second species of non‐crocodyliform crocodylomorph from the Late Triassic fissure deposits of southwestern UK: Implications for locomotory ecological diversity in Saltoposuchidae

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The Late Triassic–Early Jurassic fissures of the Bristol Channel area (southwest England and south Wales) are renowned for their diverse vertebrate faunas. These assemblages have yielded an array of predominantly small‐bodied forms that are crucial to our understanding of the early evolution of several major tetrapod clades.

Pelvic morphology and body size in relation to the preauricular sulcus: Evidence from medieval to modern Iberia

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The preauricular sulcus has long been debated as a pelvic feature variably attributed to obstetric stress, ligamentous traction, and broader biomechanical processes. To clarify its determinants, we analyzed 409 adult individuals from three archeological and one early modern skeletal collection from the Iberian Peninsula, integrating graded ...

Microsurgical procedure combined with thoracoscopic resection for thoracic spinal canal dumbbell-shaped tumors

open access: yesChinese Journal of Contemporary Neurology and Neurosurgery, 2013
Background Spinal canal dumbbell-shaped tumor growing to spinal canal and paravertebral, may compress the spinal cord and invade the spinal canal, intervertebral foramen and spinal structures, and cause clinical symptoms.

Cervical Spinal Cord Injury in Patients with Cervical Canal Stenosis without Radiologic Evidence of Trauma: Evaluation of 15 Consecutive Cases

open access: yesBagcilar Medical Bulletin, 2017
Objective: Cervical spinal canal stenosis is a well-known risk factor for spinal cord injury. In some patients, spinal cord injury is the first symptom of spinal stenosis.

Do the cervical spinal canal dimensions predict pre-myelopathic changes of cervical spinal cord? - a magnetic resonance image study

open access: yesNational Journal of Clinical Anatomy, 2015
Background and aims: The cervical region is the most mobile portion of the spinal column and it is here that the earliest disc degenerations are encountered. Hence it is of great interest to neurologists and neurosurgeons.

Congenital narrowing of the spinal canal [PDF]

open access: yesSpinal Cord, 1967
Further examples of congenital narrowing of the spinal canal in the lumbar and cervical regions are presented. It is implied that the condition is a nosological entity. Neurogenic intermittent claudication often accompanies the lumbar variety; the diagnosis in the cervical region is, however, radiological.

Spinal Cord Trauma: An Overview of Normal Structure and Function, Primary and Secondary Mechanisms of Injury, and Emerging Treatment Modalities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The structures of the spinal cord and vertebral column are designed to provide flexibility, while still providing ample protection for the spinal cord deep within.
