Cervical and lumbar spinal canal stenosis [PDF]

open access: yesEinstein (São Paulo), 2008
Spinal canal stenosis is a degenerative disease of the spine specifi callyrelated to human ageing as its cause. This is a degenerative diseaseof intervertebral discs and arthrosis of the spinal posterior articularfacets with subsequent stenosis of the ...

Uncertainty Quantification of Central Canal Stenosis Deep Learning Classifier From Lumbar Sagittal T2‐Weighted MRI

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 9, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Accurate assessment of the severity of central canal stenosis (CCS) on lumbar spine MRI is critical for clinical decision‐making. We evaluated deep learning models for automated CCS grading on sagittal T2‐weighted MRI, focusing on uncertainty quantification to improve clinical reliability.

Application of Statistical Shape Models to Standard Lumbar MRI for Stenosis Treatment Stratification: Severe Versus Normal Stenosis

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 9, Issue 2, June 2026.
Statistical shape models (SSMs) derived from standard 2D lumbar MRIs capture coordinated morphological features that distinguish severe from normal spinal stenosis. Both intervertebral disc and combined models provide strong discriminatory power, comparable to or exceeding traditional anatomical measurements.

Explainable Supervised Learning Classification Model Using Diffusion Tensor Imaging Predicts Postoperative Outcomes in Cervical Spondylotic Myelopathy: A Preliminary Study

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 9, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) is common in older adults. Some patients may experience incomplete neurological recovery after surgery, or even deterioration. Accurate prognosis is essential for patients, yet current tools use subjective scores and fail to detect early spinal cord microstructural changes.

Mesna in Otologic Surgery: Efficacy and Safety—A Scoping Review

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, Volume 136, Issue 6, Page 2449-2460, June 2026.
PRISMA flow diagram indicating the process of systematic inclusion and exclusion of articles. ABSTRACT Objective Mesna (Sodium 2‐mercaptoethanesulfonate) is widely used as a mucolytic agent and uroprotective agent. Recently, its disulfide bond‐breaking property has been applied in otologic surgery to facilitate safer dissection of cholesteatoma and ...

Assessment of spinal cord motion as a new diagnostic MRI-parameter in cervical spinal canal stenosis: study protocol on a prospective longitudinal trial

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, 2019
Background Increased spinal cord motion has been proven to be a relevant finding within spinal canal stenosis disclosed by phase-contrast MRI (PC-MRI). Adapted PC-MRI is a suitable and reliable method within the well deliberated setting.

O‐Arm Navigation Enhances Facet Preservation Without Compromising Clinical Outcomes in UBE Decompression for Radiographically Stable Adult Degenerative Scoliosis: A Single‐Center Comparative Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 18, Issue 6, Page 1203-1215, June 2026.
O‐arm navigation–assisted unilateral biportal endoscopic decompression achieves precise and sufficient neural decompression in stable adult degenerative scoliosis, enhancing facet preservation and reducing segmental motion changes while maintaining comparable symptomatic improvement to conventional fluoroscopy, demonstrating the value of navigation in ...

Keyhole Foraminotomy Combined With Unilateral Laminotomy for Bilateral Decompression Under Biportal Endoscopic Spinal Surgery for the Treatment of Mixed‐Type Cervical Spondylosis

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 18, Issue 6, Page 1278-1287, June 2026.
Under biportal endoscopic spine surgery, one‐stage decompression combining keyhole foraminotomy and unilateral laminotomy for bilateral decompression (ULBD) for mixed‐type cervical spondylopathy can achieve favorable clinical outcomes with minimal compromise of spinal stability.
