Decreased L5 spinal nerve ligation nociceptive behavior following L4 spinal nerve transection

Brain Research, 2003
This study used the escape/avoidance paradigm to explore the role of the L4 spinal nerve in L5 ligation nociception. Unlike L5-ligated controls, L5-ligated/L4-transected animals had normal mechanical withdrawal threshold and did not escape/avoid mechanical stimulation of the afflicted paw.

FORMATION OF SPINAL NERVES. POSTERIOR BRANCHES OF SPINAL NERVES.

Each nerve forms from nerve fibers, known as fila radicularia, extending from the posterior (dorsal) and anterior (ventral) roots of the spinal cord. The roots connect via interneurons. Grossly, the root fibers join together within the intervertebral foramina to form a spinal nerve. Spinal nerves are the nerves that start from the spinal cord in humans.

Nerve grafting from spinal cord to spinal nerve: a microsurgical technique in cats

Journal of Neuroscience Methods, 1996
A ventral surgical approach is described for the grafting of autologous saphenous nerves between the spinal cord and the avulsed C7 ventral root in the cat. To overcome serious blood loss from the epidural venous plexus, the cats were hyperventilated (end tidal PCO2 to about 23 mmHg) and controlled hypotension was induced (mean arterial pressure to ...

Spinal Accessory Nerve

2015
Although, the accessory nerve is the 11th cranial nerve, we will discuss here the spinal component due to its importance in nerve injuries and repair. The spinal accessory nerve arises from the upper cervical spinal cord (C1–C5), ascends between the dentate ligament and the posterior cervical rootlets, then through the foramen magnum joins the cranial ...

Cranial Nerves and Cervical Spinal Nerves

2018
The historical drive for the study of the brain and its cranial nerves was the localization of the soul’s interaction site with the brain: a dualistic approach. The primitive organization of the cranial nerves has been used to support the historical studies of Vesalius, Willis and Soemmerring for the understanding of our nowadays subdivision of the ...
