<div class="htmlview paragraph">To date, Federal Mogul Tri-Way Ltd. has relied on past experience to design machinery, a system of belts or gears providing torsion and thrust to cutting tools. If a shaft within a spindle system is not properly sized, it can deflect under the action of the tangential cutting effort resulting in a poor finish of ...

Dynamic Characteristics of a Hard Disk Drive Spindle System Due to Imperfect Shaft Roundness
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2009This paper proposes a modified Reynolds equation for the coupled journal and thrust fluid dynamic bearings (FDBs) to include variable film thickness due to imperfect roundness of a rotating shaft. A finite element method is used to solve the modified Reynolds equation to calculate the pressure.

Experimental investigation of an R600a two-phase loop thermosiphon to cool a motorized spindle shaft
International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer, 2018Abstract This paper has presented a novel method for cooling a motorized spindle shaft based on two-phase loop thermosiphons (TPLTs) which have a high heat transfer performance and work without external power. The evaporator section and the condenser section of the TPLT were on the same pipeline due to the thermal conduction of the shaft in the ...

IEEE International Digest of Technical Papers on Magnetics Conference, 2003
Summary form only given. The purposes of this paper are (a) to obtain experimental results that reveal all the significant modes of fluid-dynamic bearing (FDB) spindles, and (b) to verify an existing mathematical model with our experimental results. The experimental results indicate three sets of rocking modes and a set of axial modes.
