Compensation of progressive radial run-out in face-milling by spindle speed variation

International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 2000
This paper investigates the use of spindle speed variation to compensate for progressive radial run-out in the face-milling process. Machine setup errors like spindle axis tilt, cutter axis tilt and cutter center offset result in radial and axial run-out on the inserts.

Investigation of Correlation Between Process Energy Balance and Phase Shift Variation of Chatter Vibration in Spindle Speed Variation

JSME 2020 Conference on Leading Edge Manufacturing/Materials and Processing, 2020
Abstract It is widely known that the spindle speed variation (SSV) is an effective technology for chatter suppression, especially in the turning or boring process. Its simple optimal design, however, is not a simple task. In the past, certain research works considered the chatter onset from the perspective of process energy balance in a ...

Online Chatter Suppression in Turning by Adaptive Amplitude Modulation of Spindle Speed Variation

Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering, 2018
Although the effectiveness of spindle speed variation (SSV) method in chatter suppression has been extensively reported, the determination of optimal SSV parameters remains a challenge owing to the difficulties in obtaining accurate modal parameters especially under varying cutting conditions.

Spindle Speed Variation for Regenerative Chatter Suppression in Turning Process With Tool Wear Effect

ASME 2010 10th Biennial Conference on Engineering Systems Design and Analysis, Volume 4, 2010
Chatter suppression in machining processes results in more material removal rate, high precision and surface quality. In this paper, a single degree of freedom model of orthogonal turning process is used to set up the delay differential equation of motion with considering the tool wear effect as a contact force between the workpiece and tool flank ...

An analytical approach to optimize Sinusoidal Spindle Speed Variation in Milling

2008
Spindle Speed Variation (SSV) has been shown to be an effective method for chatter suppression. In particular, Sinusoidal Spindle Speed Variation (S3V) is commonly considered the most effective implementation of this technique [1]. Nevertheless, its effectiveness strongly depends on a proper choice of sinusoidal component parameters (i.e. amplitude and

Effectiveness and feasibility of Spindle Speed Variation in turning

2011
Spindle Speed Variation is a well-known technique to suppress regenerative machine tool vibrations especially for low spindle speeds. Despite a lot of research effort was done over the years the technique is not widespread in real turning applications.
