First genome sequence of a European Alternaria brassicae isolate and genes involved in early development of alternaria leaf spot on Brassica juncea

This article reports the first genome sequence of a UK Alternaria brassicae isolate. Dual RNA‐sequencing profiling of A. brassicae‐infected Brassica juncea leaves identified differentially expressed genes involved in pathogenicity and host response pathways in moderately resistant Sej‐2 (2) and moderately susceptible Pusa Jaikisan cultivars.

The elaboration of spindle whorls for the manufacture of thread using spindles is attested in the Iberian Peninsula from the end of the Neolithic. There is no evidence, however, of the use of materials other than stone or pottery to produce spindle whorls during this period.

The Late Agricultural Development of Central Arabian Oases—Archaeobotanical and Archaeozoological Studies of the al‐Kharj Oasis

ABSTRACT While oasis settlements emerged during the Bronze Age in Eastern and Northern Arabia, the settlement process in Central Arabia was different. Excavations at al‐Yamāma—main ancient settlement of the al‐Kharj oasis (Riyadh Province, KSA)—suggest that the latter did not emerge before the second half of the first millennium BCE.
